Last week I picked up my new GMC. Closeout 07 2500HD crew cab Duramax 4WD. Everything just fell into place...My 94 GMC 1/2 ton has almost 200K miles on it now, GM once again has 0% for 60 months, I contacted several dealers for bids and got this one down below "so called" invoice, and my GM card earnings of $3500 were going to start expiring first of the year.

So after 3 years of planning and shopping...I finally made the purchase. The dealership was almost 2 hours away, so my girlfriend came with me to pick the truck up at Stark Automotive of Sun Prairie, WI. This is my first diesel and I just joined the forum to learn as much as I can.

Are you kidding me!?! I've been driving this red 97 Chevy for 10 years and never got pulled over once. The lift and extras were put on the truck 5 years ago.

Still have her sitting in the garage with 56K original miles.

Thanks for all the replies. I actually just won an auction on Ebay for camper mirrors that were take-offs from a 07.5 Sierra. Plan to swap the mirros eventually. I'm glad I found this forum before I purchased the truck, because I decided mirrors were not a factor and I can just swamp if it didn't have the camper mirrors. Instead I focused on the other options that were really important to me and getting a price that was below the "so called" invoice.

My next mods are all the simple little ones:
*window tint
*mudflaps
*Westin step bars
*Fiberglass truck cap

Eventually I will look into programming and exhaust that deletes the DPF.

His original quote was $44,000. I noticed there were advertising fees built into the invoice sheet he faxed me. I asked him how that worked. Why some dealers charge advertising and others don't. He stated that it depends on the region and what GM assigns each dealer. I told him how it was killing the deal for him because I had other quotes for less because there were no ad fees. I then read to him the disclaimer on the sheet he faxed that stated "Invoice does not reflect actual dealer cost that may include rebates, incentives, ... return of advertising monies". I read again "return of advertising monies..."??? From what he described, the advertising fees work similar to the holdback in that the dealer is paid this money at a later date from GM. So there really is no fee...it just looks like you are paying GM and then the money is handed to the dealer as extra profit.

He then asked the typical, "what is it going to take...?" We ended up agreeing on $43,000 OTD before tax, title, and license. This was $400 some under the "so called" Invoice I got off Edmunds. Amazing isnt it? He dropped the ad fees that other dealers were telling me they have to charge. He faxed me a sales contract that included a $75 doc fee. I called him that night on his cell phone and he decided he wasn't going to let the deal go over $75.

UGGHHH! I hate car buying. My process was going on the GM website and doing the "vehical locator". I then called every dealer in the state of WI that had a 07 red crew cab Duramax in stock with the options I wanted. The bids came in and I narrowed down to the best offers. I tried local dealers with the "we can find one for you". They all wanted 1K-2K over invoice. F'em, I will drive 2 hours every day to save $2,100!

Anyways, good luck to anyone currently in the process of buying. Hope this info helps you.

A great call on the fiberglass cap, especially in our neck of the woods, you being in Wisconsin and myself, about 20 minutes south of the IL/WI state line. Nothing sucks like needing to use your bed, and find about 6 inches of snow in it or not being able to use it on a rainy day.

Yes I do! You have a great looking truck yourself. I am amazed at how many awesome trucks are on this board. I'm already thinking about lifting in a few years.

Thanks again to everyone that left compliments!
