Well I live in Stanford, Ky and still pretty new to sled pulling. I want some predictions on whose going to come out on top in Workstock, Street, Prostreet and Modified in 2008. Lets hear who thinks will be the top dogs this year??

The Real question should be who is even going to be around in DHRA next year?

X2 Sure seems like you hear from alot of unhappy dhra pullers. Its gonna be to hard to tell at this point who is going to rise to the top. We know the dmax's will be on top but as to who....you never know. Alot of guys are doing engine builds this winter and making some tough pullers for each class. Just have to wait and see really :)

Well I personally wasn't talking about any particular pulling organization. I personally don't care what organization because I believe if you are a truck puller you will pull for the fun and sport of it. Thats why we pull. I believe in the mod class Erik Stacey is hard not to pick no matter what organization he's in. As far as the other classes I'm not sure. Tony Burkhard was strong in the Street class last year, will he be able to win it again at scheid's this coming year? I don't really care if its DHRA, FPP, Wide open pulling series. I just wanna know who you think will be on top.

O id say JNeal and the danville crew will be pretty tough in the workstock. Martin farms?? I think their called in the modified class with their reg cab dodge.

I wouldn't make any predictions as the price of fuel, associations being around, and burn out all may changes things as we know it in the sled pulling world.

I am sure that who ever is out running will give it there all and we can watch and enjoy!!!

Wow, Scheid building a street class truck. that will be mean. I seen where Bo Layne and Brad Millers trucks are for sale so they probably got something going on.

Tampico is about an hour north of Louisville, KY and about 20mins west off of I-65.
Its really a beer drinking party with truck pulls going on. There should be some mean duramaxes and Cummins there this spring.

Work stock class Duramaxes took care of business at Tampico this year. ;) Twice!

that is the truth but I'm just ribbing with a few of them. It was a great pull and no one was a bad sport. Just some friendly ribbing since then. :D No doubt, the Cummins trucks there had more power, just didn't come out ahead either time.

Cool. I keep a look out for a date in the spring? Are you hooking the '07? Hopefully I can make both pulls this year. I read somewhere that the some of the OH pullers are adopting 2.6" as a "street class" (over the 2.5"). Any truth in this? It would be nice to get a more "standardized" set of rules. (at least the major "core" rules)

I hope dale calendar steps up a class, and if so he'll be one to beat. At shelbyville pull he was thinking about it. He has nothing left to prove in the workstock class, being the back to back point champion in 06 and 07.

maybe a famr sponsored truck, but it ain't no working farm truck. My guess is that it does one of two things... pull or sit waiting to pull. :D I'd expect to see him in the 2.5 class next year and I'd imagine he'll probably still be tough.

The 2.5 class is not gonna be measly. It'll take some real effort to be at the top. It'll take more than just slapping a charge on what you already had last year IMO. I'd expect the top trucks to be on the north side 600rwhp and capable of fairly efficiently transfering that to the ground.

The 2.8/3.0 class is just going to be nuts considering what it was a couple years ago. Drivelines will likely be limiting factors IMO.

Of course, the Super Street and Mod classes are already insane and completely awesome!!

I hear there are some new faces about to show up in the mod class behind a Duramax plus some fresh builds for the mod and Super Street classes. So it's really hard to say who will be a top of any class. Always so much change. That said, if Chris Watson gets back at it this year coming year, I'd say he'll be at or near the top like when he left. I'd also expect most people to be behind the Double Overtime Powerstroke powered mod truck. hopefully Kyle/Climax got something together this year and winter after breaking to do some damage in the super street class.

I really wouldn't even know who to guess for the 2.5 and 2.8/3.0 class. There are so many trucks and so many that may show up that it's just too hard to even guess. Tony Burkhardt will be tough. I'd expect to see some more CR Cummins trucks doing something impressive in these classes as well.

Well, that is way more than enough babbling on for me so there is my two $&its worth. :D

The common rail cummins isnt going to be no slouch in the 2.5 and 2.8 class....the engines reliability will make it a pullers choice IMHO....Most 2.5 and above dmaxes that will want to compete will most likely have to be Built engines

Ya I didn't understand what McRat was trying to get at. The only thing concrete is used for is to keep the cylinders from moving under a lot of rpm's. It has nothing to do with horsepower, its just cheap insurance. Thats an old pulling secret from years ago:)

Jfaulkner
12-20-2007, 07:19 PM
My comments were directed at his DHRA rules comments where he feels that adding concrete to a block is in some way an advantage in a 3" single charger class. (everyone knows 3" single charger trucks break blocks ) Where he was called out on how dumb that comment was and now I see he did it again with this comment reguarding a STREET CLASS TRUCK!!!
But with the price of concrete skyrocketting, who can afford one?(p.s. adding a smiley face doesn't make your comments seem any less idiotic)

I know the whole cummins performance thing is completely out of your relm however there are MANY cummins powered trucks running close to 150psi of boost WITHOUT CONCRETE. In fact I know of one that ran several runs over 100psi before the headgasket finally let go and didn't even have the head o-ringed.

I believe it's more about Cylinder pressure than rpm's (although cylinder pressures ramp more quickly at higher rpm's). Gassers/alcohol engines have had to do this when running high compression pistons and/or super/turbo chargers. Diesels are starting to run much bigger chargers, more boost, and much more fuel, water/meth, etc. and it can distort the cylinder walls as cylinder pressures increase. The block fill is used to keep the walls from distorting under these stresses which not only keep the cylinder wall more stable, but allows less deformation of the piston, rod, and crank.

clearly some don't know how to, or are so caught up with proving something, that they can't see the sarcasm. There is an advantage to running block fillers otherwise IT WOULDN'T BE USED. Is it insta-horsepower? Of course not and any one with half a mind knows that. And contrary to some's belief, Pat isn't stupid and also knows this.

If I may quote the great Tombstone.... "Don't pay no mind to him. He's only funnin' about." ;)

Has anybody set dates for the Tampico pulls?

The dates are not set for the Tampico pull yet. The rule of thumb is that the spring pull is the last weekend in June. That may change this year because PPL scheduled Pro-Stock tractors to be at a Champions Tour event in Wheatland, MO the last weekend in June. Pro-Stocks are the biggest attraction to the crowd in Tampico so the date could possibly be moved up a weekend. It will be either June 20/21 or June 27/28. Thanks to everyone who came to pull last year! Look foward to seeing more trucks in '08!

I think I'd have to disagree. Don'e get me wrong, you know I like diesel pick-ups as much as anyone, but when Masterson's, Boyd's, Little's, etc... roll in town they are the "main attraction" for most of the crowd. The Fire Dept. knows this, and thats the reason there may be a date change.
