Hey,
I will be heading to Southeast Iowa this Wednesday night/Thursday morning and the weather shows it to be below 0 when I will be arriving. Later in the week, it is supposed to get warmer. Anyway, my question is about winter blended fuel. Is the winter blend a nation wide thing or only where it is needed? I don't really want to be putting additives in there but I would much rather add then be stuck somewhere due to gelled fuel. Also, if it is needed, is the Stanadyne stuff sold at truck stops? I have read that the ECM is cooled by the fuel and the fuel gets recirculated, so another question is what are the chances that the tank of fuel could gel by cruising down the road in temps below 0.

Not a tech but.....Stanadyne can be hard time find at times. Power Service or similar is usually available just about anywhere. If I had your concern I would be using a little additive for the trip. Chances of gelling at cruising are very low as the fuel in the tank warms due to the recirculation. Trouble you can run into is once you shut down for a while in those cold temps. Someone will chime in here about the winter fuel being nation-wide or not.

I don't think it's nation wide. The additives in winter mix are not needed in Florida and the other warm states.

Thats the kind of what I was thinking. Although, I was not sure if it would just be easier to blend all so you would know for a fact instead of just wondering. I have a list of phone numbers at the planned stops and I will give them a call in the morning to find out for sure...
