Ok been reading ALOT of threads about the strength of a stock allison and have some questions maybe some can answer for me. They are as follows:

1) What is RWHP of slightly modded 8.1L?
2) What is maximum amount stock ally can handle while still towing 6K# everyday?
3) What is most cost effective upgrade?
4) How do you know if you have "limped" or "slipped" or "slightly burnt" your clutches?

Ok last one I promise.....:D

5) What are the weakest shifts..ie... when should I let off power when merging on freeway or messing around while empty?

I know yall got ALOT more experience then me on these and Im sure all this has been posted before but if yall could answer some these questions I might be able to ease my mind on not having to spend the dreaded $5000+ on an upgrade/rebuild. Thanks for any info. ;)

1 - Do not know
2 - You should be fine if truck is close to stock, just use good judgement when towing
3 - TransGo kit
4 - If limped you would have to turn the truck off to get out of limp mode. Slipped not sure. Burned clutches not sure maybe smell in the fluid.
5 - 4-5 shift. I would stay away from full throttle during this shift. Esp. towing
A upgrade should not cost that much.
Remember to keep the maintance up on the tranny. I think most will agree you can safely get to 370-390 HP and 700ishTQ on the stock ally.
Hope this helps

i would think with a 8.1 gas engine you'll be a lot less likley to ''limp'' an alli, way less tq

Not all limps are from the tranny , I have limped mine stock (p1093) fuel pressure low during power enrich . Time for that little fix (shim I think) .
