truck came into shop on the hook. both batteries were bad. replaced batteries and it started right up. left it run for a minute or so and pressed on the gas to back out and it died. started right back up but blew mass amounts of white smoke out when step on the gas. looked at the fuel filter that was only about 1500 miles old and saw the rubber hose from inj. module to filter housing was sucked shut. opened bleeder screw and the hose regained some shape. nobody around us stock the hose so i put a piece of 1/2 in fuel hose on it to see if it would run. primed the filter and started the truck. truck ran for 25 to 30 sec and would not start again. called local gm dealer and they said i could use there fuel pressure gauge to check pressure. truck sat about 20 min hooked up gauge, cranked fired up for a sec. cranked again and run fine. gauge showed between 5 and 6 in vac. could not find what it should be in the alldata. might of just had some air in it. do you think the hose will hold up for 2 or 3 days till i get the right hose. truck has 226,000 on it and still has original injectors. 157,000 pump was replaced. any other things i might have over looked. we have never really worked on the dmax or the chevy dealers around us. thanks for your help

With a new filter (or even one that has been on the truck for 5K miles), the vacuum reading at the test port should be less than 3 inHg. I typically get a reading of 2.5 inHg at idle.

If you are in a very cold area, maybe ice?
Also check the fuel filler cap, the vent can get stuck,
and you pull a vacuum in the tank. Try running it with the
cap loose to test it out.

Sounds like injectors and high fuel return rate to me

I have similar probelm with my 01 but can't get the fuel primed as the hose pinches when pumping, and truck will not run. Injectors were replaced 2300mi ago.

200k+ miles on 01 injectors! Thats pretty good.

Too bad youre out of the warranty.

You have a restriction somewhere on the suction side for that much vacuum at idle. Gelled fuel? Clogged filter?

I agree with Max... restriction on the supply side....
