Saw a thread a while back about the high beam indicator being to bright & being able to get it reflashed. Went to the dealer today & they said they had a procedure for 2003's but nothing on 2004's. They called whoever & were told there was no fix and they had had no complaints. Not a big deal but I 've had a piece of post it paper over the high beam indicator since new. Not a very fancy fix for a $45,000 truck. Anyone have any luck getting the indicator dimmed on a 2004 truck?

Mine is'nt overly bright but then I hardly ever drive with my brights on.
As a rule it's no big deal except on a long trip with night driving. It's bright enough so you want to shield your eye from it just because it's the brightest thing on the dash. It would be ideal if it dimmed with the rest of the dash lights.

Yes, it is a big deal, especially for those of us who live in northern climates and drive to/from work in the dark. I took my 2004 2500LD in and complained but they gave me the same info - no fix for the '04, no complaints about the '04, just '03. I have now taken my 2004 3500 in and got the exact same answer.
So, I decided to fix it myself. I went to Walmart and purchased a piece of the window tint, cut me a 1/2 circle out of it and "pasted" it on the plastic in front of the high beam indicator. It cut it down just fine and made it like what I'd expect a normal high beam indicator to be like.
With that said, I'm sure GM will start adding my idea on the '06 models as an option, a $145 option ;)

IP Cluster High Beam Indicator too Bright (Reprogram IPC)
2003 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Escalade EXT
2003 Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado, Suburban, Tahoe
2003 GMC Sierra, Yukon, Yukon XL
Condition
Some customers may comment that the IP cluster high beam indicator lamp is too bright.
Correction
To reduce the high beam indicator intensity level, reprogram the IPC with the service calibration that was available from Techline on the TIS2000 version 4.5 or later for 2003. This calibration is an electronic calibration and is not available from GMSPO.
This works for the 2003's. Shouldn't it work for the 2004's?

I think the late 03's and 04's come pre-dimmed.

My 2003 had to be reprogrammed. It was so bright that it was a major distraction out in the country. It did make a big difference and took about 10 minutes to get it done. My father has a 2004 Sierra that is annoying. I may take it Thursday to see if it works on this year, too.

Ya there way to bright the tint idea is a good one , i think ill be doing that if the reflash does not work. Thanks for the idea.
The tint thing sounds like a great upgrade to my piece of post it paper. Had a small round band aid on it for a while which worked good but not to classy. For those wondering I was told the 03 reflash wouldn't work on the 04's.
