I finally got around to installing my Racor fuel filter kit from lubespecialist.com. I opted for the heater and WIF sensor model due to my location. The install went well for the most part. I do have a few observations to relate:
1. It was necessary to use a floor jack to lift the truck up so my uncle and I could get under the frame more easily to mount the filter. Once the fuel line was cut, my uncle took a diesel bath for about a minute. We jacked the truck from the rear end, which I DO NOT RECOMMEND! We weren't smart enough to remember that the tank would then be higher than the location we were working and that diesel consequently flows downhill! Jack from the front end.
2. I think Gregg's drill bit may be worn out):h ! The holes on the mounting bracket and rock guard had to be drilled out to accept the included bolts. Not a big problem, however.
3. The instuctions provided could be more clear on which wire to splice into for the WIF connection under the fuse block. On my truck, there were MANY pink wires, but luckily I chose the correct one. It is important to note that the correct pink wire is a heavier gauge than the surrounding pink wires. This wasn't clear in the directions. Also, the rest of my fuse block was much different looking than the one in the picture.
Overall, I feel that it's a quality setup and worth the money. I swear my truck now idles more smoothly and is slightly quieter. It could be my imagination, but I've heard other people mention the same thing when using secondary fuel filtration.
