Has anyone found the transmission oil brown in color at 10000 miles?
I have a friend that pulls a 31' 5er and he said that his ali had brown oil just over 10000 miles. He changed fluid as well as the internal and external filters. He has another friend that had the same problem. Is this common or due pulling the heavy weight? He started pulling with the DMAX around 2000 miles.

what type of fluid are you running? i known transynd has been known to discolor.. i ran the amsoil (both the regular atf and the new torqueshift) and neither of them ever changed color/odor.. could just be the brand of fluid.. does it smell burnt?

Original GM Trans oil. I will have to ask friend if it had a burnt smell.

The stock tranni fluid is red in color. For it to get brown you whould have had to get it hot. Milage is not a factor here. There could be a clutch bad in the tranni causing this or the driving habits.

concur with opinion that if the fluid is Dextron it has been subjected to heat .. he will have to find the source which among others come easily be a deffective part, use of a power enhancement without proper monitoring, and/or a driving style that results in too much strain being placed on the transmission

Had the same problem @ first scheduled oil change. Started having shift issue with falling out of 5th on hard throtle and locking in 4th. No reverse no codes etc. had valve body changed in trans. and have not any problems since. Oil or shifting.

I used to have the same problem with my vans and box trucks I use in my business. Guys running them too hard with too much weight- brown fluid. Now I run everything on Amsoil synthetic tranny fluid, no more problems.
