: sea foam?
Brooklyn tow 12-07-2007, 12:26 AM Anybody ever hear of this stuff?
I've heard it does wonders for gassers......to clean internals, but what about diesels?..............anyone?
Thanks,
Louis
98BuickRegalgs 12-07-2007, 01:13 AM When I changed my fuel filter I filled the entire fuel filter housing with seafoam.
It feels like my trucks running better but it could be placebo
dmitch 12-07-2007, 08:49 AM Seafoam is great stuff. I Have Several diesel water pumps and use it all the time in them and in all of my gas equipment. I use it as a stabilizer as well. Great stuff.
w_huisman 12-07-2007, 09:24 AM I use it in my boat in the winter time (175HP Merc outboard), and usually run a stiff mix of it through my three-wheeler the first time ice fishing every winter. Good for cleaning carb jets.
Never used it in my truck though. Probably wouldn't hurt, but I already run a stiff mix of bio in the summer which also give the fuel system a good cleaning so I don't see the need.
JMJNet 12-07-2007, 09:54 AM I used in my camry through the vacuum system although I don't use it with the gas or oil. I have not used it in the Diesel. To clean the engine, I used a product called Auto-RX which is highly recommended by users in BITOG, of course you can read more about it there. I am doing it in my Diesel now. It is a process of several OCI. Seems to work great.
FF_Opie 12-07-2007, 11:50 AM My buddy runs a mechanics shop and uses that stuff on almost EVERYTHING. Diesel or gas...

Yeah thats a little :offtopic:
Back to the seafoam stuff Ive always heard great things about it but never used it. Its hard to find here for some reason. I would liek to give it a try some time. I have a 80hp merc boat engine that doesnt run real good and its a huge job to get the carbs out.
landscaper67 12-07-2007, 01:14 PM Advanced Auto Parts carries it here in Northern Indiana. So does NAPA auto parts.

I couldn't resist-sorry
ChevyDave 12-07-2007, 03:29 PM I believe Checkers carries Sea Foam now. I love the trans tune, it works great, its fixed many autos with shifting problems. The engine formula is also great I have used it on many smoking cars and cured all but one, and it had broken valve seals.

jrsavoie 12-08-2007, 11:24 AM I've been using sea foam forever. I always add it to my storage tanks before filling
jifaire 12-08-2007, 11:30 AM What the heck are you-all talking about?
(I don't think we have such a thing as SeaFoam up here...)
Somebody got a website for the company, or something with details?
(this is national help-a-Canuck day... I don't like feeling dumber than usual)
jrsavoie 12-08-2007, 11:33 AM http://www.seafoamsales.com/motorTuneUp.htm
jrsavoie 12-08-2007, 11:40 AM Sea Foam Deep Creep is also an excellant product. It's the best I've found for loosening things that require a little heat.
monel_funkawitz 12-08-2007, 11:40 AM Last time I used Sea Foam on the Taurus, it got the cops and FD called cause they thought something was on fire.
Car doesn't really run any better, but the lives of MANY mosquitos were lost in the process. (It does work though.)

Don't you guys speak french up there?
Louis
red suburban 12-08-2007, 01:02 PM i've used both seafoam and b12 chemtool, both work great and do the same thing. depending on where you are one will be much cheaper than the other. when i lived in midland tx b12 was 99 cents a can and seafoam was 4.29 a can. well worth it (gotta agree to the smoking thing, i covered alot of my old apartment complex parking lot with smoke from my 94 suburban i used to have.)

My condolences!! :D:rolleyes:
Hey jifaire, I've seen it a couple of Napa stores here in Edmonton, and a couple of yrs ago when I was in *cough* Toronto I saw it there as well. I've used it on a Mercedes and a VW diesel, but they never had driveability issues so I cant say if it (seat of the pants) if it helped or not.
WilliamBos 12-08-2007, 01:49 PM And there is a nifty little tool that you thread on to the can, and then slip a hose directly in to the ( brake ) vacuum supply line? What is that tool called, and where do you get it? Also, Seafoam has a competitor, but I can't remember their name.

The majority of Torontonians think that the country revolves around then, that their own SCensoredT don't stink. Huge ego, and as a result, most of the country does not like them.......

Yeah, there are some exceptions, but it seems the ACensoredholes seem to stand out the most.
mamzerook 12-08-2007, 09:03 PM I understood seafoam was a water emusifier, as in all the water is carried thru the fuel pump, therefore not so good for diesels. Any thoughts?
jrsavoie 12-08-2007, 09:46 PM Thats what us michigan people think of chicago. :D
Not to mention what those of us that live in Illinois but not the dirty city think of Chicago. They rule the whole dang state. We need 2 states Illinois & Chicago. Let them pay for their own dang mass transit. Cut Illinois off at rt 30 and rt31 and call that Chicago.

Chicago people come over here to michigan with all there money and buy everything up. Farm land is through the roof because they buy it as a investment. They killed out all the farmers here. Then they dont know how to freaken drive. They go 100mph down the highway or 40mph. They cant signal, stop in the middle of they road. And the worst part is they think they own you. They think they own everything in michigan and have no problems calling what you grow a bunch of crap or way over priced.
Oh fifty cents for a water melon of that quality, thats outragous.
I want to pick the melon up and smash her in the head with it and say there bich you can have it for free. Women from chicago are really bad.
WilliamBos 12-08-2007, 10:18 PM Sounds familiar. Whiners in Toronto somehow think they deserve 1% of the GST ( federal Tax ) because the idiots who run they city don't have a clue how to balance a budget. FCensoredK them, they will not get it. ( it would set a nasty precedent. ) But our asshole Premier gives them 1% of the provincial gas tax, and the CCensoredcksuckers do not deserve it. They need to be held accountable.
Rant over.......for now

Maybe Chicago doesn't just need to be it's own state maybe they also need a border fence to keep them there.

Thank god for lake michigan or they would all be over here. Maybe we could flood the danryan expressway. I was told it was designed to be flooded when it was built because they were afraid of race riots. I guess one of the races in chicago cant swim :D
rigwatcher 12-08-2007, 11:02 PM lol they say out here the only good thing to come from the east is the sun and an empty bus! not too sure how far east they mean, probably the manitoba/ontario border.
Anyways i use seafoam in my diesel filter bowl everytime i change my filter. Drain it, fill it with seafoam, load filter...run truck at 1050 idle. Works good!!
michaeljp86 12-08-2007, 11:14 PM I understood seafoam was a water emusifier, as in all the water is carried thru the fuel pump, therefore not so good for diesels. Any thoughts?
I remember somone selling a fuel additive years ago that supposed to
encapsulate water molecules and make them burn and help clean the engine.
If it breaks the water down to a molecular level I don't see any harm in it.
TurboTahoe 12-08-2007, 11:29 PM OK boys, based on this thread, I just used it on a gasser - a Toyota Minivan (Previa) that was stumbling badly, and lacking in power, running very rough.
Bought both the SeaFoam engine treatment and the "Deep Creep" spray. I ran 1/2 pint in the crankcase for 45 minutes (while running at high idle), put other 1/2 pint in the tank (only about 4 gallons in there). So, concentrated Sea Foam in both areas. Used the aerosol in the throttle body - shot a bunch in there during high idle. After 45 min, shut down engine, drained oil. (oil was considerably thinner than past oil changes, as the Sea Foam is a solvent) Pulled the plugs (if you've ever worked on a Previa, this takes a while, because you must pull the passenger front seat and pull up the carpet) and shot a WHOLE bunch into the chambers. Took out the PCV and cleaned it (I think that's what was causing most of the stumbling at idle - it was filthy). Changed plugs, cap, rotor. Reassembled everything, added Mobil 1 and new oil filter.
Fired her up - WOW - that's a lot of nasty smoke. Did I say, that's a LOT of SMOKE! Whew - had to exit the garage for a while and use the leaf blower to clear the fumes!
OK. The results? Stumbling is gone. Smooth idle. Smooth acceleration. Significantly more power (based on SOP dyno). Minivan runs like it was new again. Excellent!
Granted, it's not a test on a 6.5, but the Previa needed help, and most of the same things can be used for the 6.5, except removing the plugs. I think you could just inject the aerosol into the intake manifold, and you could fill the fuel filter with the stuff.
Based on what I've just experienced (OK, I grant that the new parts helped too), I'm sold on this stuff. It definitely seems to break carbon and varnish down quickly. I'll probably try it on both my 6.5s.
Sincerely,
Rob :)

Cool. Thanks, guys... I'll see if I can find some of that stuff up here in Canuckland and give it a try, too.
Post again after you try it on the 6.5, Rob...

steelydan 12-09-2007, 11:56 AM Great stuff...ran it in my 6.5. Cured a stumble in my 4runner 22RE. Also use it to pass Aircare in BC on my Mercedes...Trans tune fixed rough shifting on my 95 4L80E. Smokes like hell. Pulled the vacuum line off the booster on the 22re and sucked it in slow. Filled fuel filter 1/2 full and 1/2 diesel when changing filters on the 6.5. Shut engine down overnite if possible once it is in and make sure your neighbors are asleep when you start it in the AM.
Napa on the "best-coast" carries it.
doober 12-09-2007, 03:02 PM I used Seafoam in my 92 after I replaced the engine. It ran rough so I decided to run two cans of seafoam in it. It seemed to have alot more power. I also seemed to get better gas milage. Considered running it in every tank because I got better milage but at almost 5 bucks a can it didn't make financial sense.
Also, Here in Wisconsin the Illionois people are buying up land left and right also. My neighbor is from Chicago and I have heard enough of the Bears. The last few weeks I haven't heard much about the bears though. Go Packers!!!! He didn't like it once when I called him a Fib.

I just thought you would want a demulsifier so the water would separate and land in the separator. Even broken down, any water through the IP or injectors would not be good IMHO
michaeljp86 12-09-2007, 10:52 PM I just thought you would want a demulsifier so the water would separate and land in the separator. Even broken down, any water through the IP or injectors would not be good IMHO
Water wouldnt be good through the IP but I dont see how a water molecule could hurt anything.
monel_funkawitz 12-09-2007, 11:18 PM Water in injectors is REALLY bad because the water vaporizes sometimes at the heat and pressure in an injection nozzle. It literally explodes. I've seen 'jectors that were cracked and REALLY messed up from water.
Water doesn't vaproize at the same conditions as fuel.
