all,
looking at purchasing a brakesmart controller, with the harness for my 03 dmax. How well does it perform versus others on snow pack and ice ? How well will it switch beetween 5er (7K lb) and utility trailer (4K loaded) ?
Also, do I need a bracket to attach to the fenderwell for the trailer pigtail (bunched up between the cab and bed). looking at mounting in the rear diriver wheel well, better location ?
new to this if you cant tell

I haven't taken the trailer out in known bad conditions.....yet. I do know that the BrakeSmart responds well and is keyed to your pedal pressure. So you would have much better feel. No more trailer pushing you down the road when the truck's wheels are not getting a perfect grip.
Looks like I might get a chance to test it this coming Wednesday. If I do, I'll post.
thanks, please post your experience if you can. I took the plunge and ordered one, liked the controller but also the idea of being able to monitor EGTs and boost with it in the future.

Sounds like a nice unit where did you order it from?
ordered direct, at http://www.brakesmart.net. going rate is 349.98, with free shipping for the holidays. only a handful of dealers at the same price so was an easy choice. The EGT and boost module is not available yet, but will be a module compatible with the existing unit when released (according to customer service) no word yet on additional pricing. Also, there are different colors to suit your interior.
just installed the controller, took 40 minutes with taking my time. What an easy and slick setup. I mounted the controller bracket below the plastic dash to 2 open holes in metal, very secure and out of the way but easily accessible. Will test it out early next week when I pick up the 5er :ro)
On edit, for those that have this controller, how long do you leave the time delay on for ? I set mine at 30 minutes to shut off

Mine is 2 hours. Don't want to hear the alarm going down the highway. It is a little unnerving.
man, guess I need to read more, I thought this was for the display turning off while parked. When does that go out ?

It is, but the timer is from the last time you used the brakes. On a good highway cruise, you easily can go 1/2 hour without touching the brakes. The BrakeSmart beeps just before turning off the display.
thanks fingers. I assume the display draws very little current over the two hours, so no worry about battery draw down id sitting for a week at a time ? I have not measured it.

Not enough to worry about.

I have mine set for 30 minutes also. It sure does wake you up when the alarm goes off.
I may change the timer to 1 hour or so. Good luck with your purchase, I know you are going to really enjoy the way its stops.
