: Factory XM Radio
Dwatson59 12-06-2007, 09:55 PM Does anyone know if there is a factory modification kit to install the XM radio into the factory installed radio? Is the price prohibitive? Where is the XM antenna located on a factory install? I did not think I would need XM in my truck and after taking a long trip alone recently I would now like to have it. The factory look is much cleaner than the add on's.
Thanks in Advance,
David

wscato 12-08-2007, 05:19 PM Does this one work just like the factory installed XM with the 6 disc changer OEM head unit? Was shining a flash light on the display of the radio and couldn't see a XM1 or XM2 indicator. Thanks!

What year truck do you have? It would need to be at least an 03 Model i think, Somebody correct me if im wrong...
rox383 12-09-2007, 03:09 AM I opted out of the XM option (and on-star)simply b/c I didn't want a hole in the roof and I like sirius better.
I have sirius in my 2006 GMC and my 2000 blazer, ordered the GM-1 from crutchfield
http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Group/ProductMenu.aspx?g=247350&tp=87
the unit is a direct input type (not FM modulator style) works just like factory XM. Instead of XM1 or XM2 it reads SR1 and SR2. I mounted it behind the gauge cluster and routed the antenna up the door pillar to the roof, the magnet sits right next to the roof marker lights, its small so not real noticeable.
oh and the steering wheel controls work as well. hope the info helps.

wscato 12-09-2007, 08:03 AM Also, what is the difference in this kit and the one above? This is the one my dealer wants to sell me and it even comes up under the 2006 model when searching by vehicle.

8100 Power 12-09-2007, 11:33 AM The SIRGM-1 Adapter is for people previously running XM radio and wanting to convert into Sirius. If you truck is not factory equipped with the XM antenna, You would have to buy a antenna for it. Im not sure if there is any addional wiring harness's you would need since you didn't have it from the factory. Maybe somebody that has a SIR-GM1 can chime in..
ScottyB 12-09-2007, 03:05 PM If you have an XM compatible head unit (I believe the stock ones are), then you could check out eBay for a TERK XMDirect adapter. It works like stock and the install could be done by a child. The antenna would go anywhere you wanted it including under the dash and out of site (just not obstructed by any other metal objects).

Just to clear thing up, My truck never had XM. I ordered my truck new with out it, I do however have the SIRGM-1 and it comes with the antenna and wiring harness and directions. Mine was pretty much plug and play. Everything adapts right to the stock Bose radio, IMHO either adapter (XM or SIR) should work.

Dr.Gixxer 12-16-2007, 01:30 AM My truck didn't have XM either but I added the SIR-GM1. Pretty much plug and play. Ran my antenna out my 3rd brake light. Works like a charm.
rcr1978 12-16-2007, 10:43 AM I have an 07.5 work truck no power anything on the interior, it has onstar. The question I have is the onstar and xm antenna the same thing or is the xm antenna seperate from the onstar. Does anybody know if the stock head units are set up for satelite radio. I'm not sure what unit it is thought it is atleast a CD player.
