I recently bought a 1995 Chevy G30 6.5L diesel van and I love it. My problem is that I do a lot of highway driving and it does not have a cruise control. The transmission is the 3-speed with automatic overdrive. The engine is not turbocharged.

Does anyone know of a good cruise control I can get for this vehicle? I am moderately handy so if it could be simple enough to install myself that would be great.

Would it be worth trying to find a used one at a salvage yard? I assume that a CC from a gas V-8 would not work on the diesel - am I right?

Thanks in advance.

The cruise is part of thr PCM function, but I'm not sure if you have to upgrade the PCM or simply wire the cruise to the propper pins on the PCM.

All you need to do is buy the multi function cruise control lever and plug it in and you will have cruise control. It is a multi function switch that controls, high/low beams, turn signals, cruise, wipers, hazards, etc so it is a bit expesive. You should be able to pick one up for $150 or so IIRC. It is a bit of work to change as you have pull the steering wheel and have to change the whole wiring harness down to the main plug.

If you know someone with the same van that has cruise you should be able to take that serial # to your GM dealer and order the multi function lever with cruise. You should also compare the price of your dealer against gmpartsdirect.

The multi function lever from a gas should work.

Good luck.

Or just pull a whole column from a salvage yard. I think I paid $35 for one for the G30 I had.

If I remember right, vans still had mechanical pumps till somewhere around '96 or whenever they went to the center turbo
I believe it will require a CC module and everything. It would probably be easiest to just get an aftermarket unit.

Is it mechanical throttle or drive by wire? Sorry I assumed it was drive by wire.
