I'm going to install a 97 oil pump in my 94 6.5 engine. I plan to also try to use a 97 pan which I believe has a larger capacity. Can anyone verify if the 97 and up pans fit to the 94 block in a c-3500 application?

While I think they would interchange, best thing to do is look up the parts at the dealer and see if they share the same part numbers.

I believe they're the same size...I might be wrong but it seems to me there is no difference in engine-sheet-metal.

I don't think there is differences in the pan capacities by year. GM states one more quart to change engine oil starting in 1997 "Diesel engine supplement" owner manual. GM also states "approximate" on oil capacities. Starting in 1997 Some 3500 & 3500HD trucks have larger diameter oil cooler lines so they would hold some there & those trucks also have piston oilers in the block. Anyone with a 1997/98 1500 looked at their" Diesel Supplement"owner manual as to the capacity ? I think one should only use the "Diesel supplement" for reference that came with their year/truck. I would expect there are several part # for dip sticks though. I always start & run the engine before the final quart or part of is added.
