I have a 04.5 CC with the two cup holders between the front seats in the middle.
Anyone know if they can be removed and how?

I want to try and make a laptop mount and my thinking is that if I can remove those cup holders I can bolt something to that area and when I go to sell the truck, I replace the holders and nobody's the wiser.

I know about the Jotto Desk and Ram mounts but those are pretty expensive and I'm just trying to do it cheaper!!!!!!!!!:)

IIRC you can just grab and pull and they should come out...

well the inserts come out easy enough,but the little bit that I messed with them today ,it seems they the rest of it is in pretty solid.:mad:

It will come out, trust me, you have to pull on it to get it out. I don't think that you can actually break it but you might break the little tabs that hold it in place. Good luck..

You have a bench seat, right?

Seatbelt your laptop to the top of the folddown seat in the middle. I have done many a mile this way, it's still semi accessable and very useful, and if you are my size it helps raise up the armrest to the right height.

grab ahold of the front of the cup holder as best as you can........pull back and up and it will come out ..........the area underneath it would make a great storage place.

I think Zoom got the holders out and now he is talking about the rest.

Well I went out today and tried to remove the cup holder!
Since I had to run into town and the truck was good and warm I thought it would be a good time to try it. Gave a couple of good pulls and broke the plastic!
It wasn't cold inside the truck but the Censored thing still broke and never did come out. :(
It seems that the cup holder is attached to a steel support and it looks like to me that it is riveted in and isn't coming out except with a hacksaw!
So I glued it back together and will figure out something else.
This isn't over yet!

Do you have the center console or bench seats?? If its the center console, the whole cup holder area should just pop out from the rest of the console area.

I just went out and lifted my cup-holder straight up and it came out, no problem. I have the bucket seats with center console. I don't know what you have.

On my console it looks as if it all one piece and is not removable. i tried this summer and was afraid of breaking it. The OBS trucks popped out but my 03 doesn't look like it does.

I have the same console as you and mine was not coming out at all. I will have to go back and give it another look!

This whole cup holder thing is getting out of hand.LOL

I can remove the rubber inserts,they just lift right out.When I tried to remove the hard plastic part (as I said before) I broke it.It seems that this hard plastic part is attached to a metal(?) support piece that is kinda the shape of the cup holder that also supports the rubber piece that I CAN remove.--------------- Oh Lordy now I'm really confused------------------<G>

Looking underneath it looks like it's riveted to a couple of metal bars(?) that run under the console and that looks like it is riveted to a metal bar also. It will not move in,out,up or down!!!!!!!!!!

What I need is a I P B of this thing as that might show how it's put together!!!!!

Unfortunately mine doesn't look like that.My holder is at the end of the console and is almost touching the floor,it sits that low!

With the bench seats (40-20-40?), the cup holder is rivited to the center jump seat frame. only the rubber insert is removable.. went through this exersize with my 02... put the fold down holder in the dash (from an 00), then could'nt remove the one from the center seat.

Folks on the forum did assure me that its bolted to the metal support plates and since I installed a dash unit, I've not looked at iit since ~ guess I'll revisit it tonite.

ON EDIT:

Went out and chkd it ~ there were 4 of what I thot to be allen head screws. But one had a solid head ~ making me think they may be rivets instead. Can't see'um and couldn't fit a allen wrench to'um either. Seems we can only feel/touch them. Don't like them either.

When I looked underneath the holder it looked like it maybe was rivets also. I thought maybe screws but couldn't feel any kind of a screw head .

So on to plan B!! LOL

Have you considered what to do w/the steel platform stll stickin' out after the plastic holders are gone? Might expose sharp edges ~

I don't want to hijack the thread, but does anyone know what the wires in NorCal 2500HD's pictures are used for?

Rear climate controls, cigarette lighter, stereo controls, etc.

Is there any chance that any of them would be switched 12V? I figure that I might be able tap in there to get power for some rear floor lights.
