: Thought I would post this
specialagentPK 12-04-2007, 07:05 PM These are the pictures of me moving a CAT 777D Rock truck out to a new molybdenum mine in Atlin BC.
Total weight was 148,500 lbs and 18' wide. The move had to start at midnight with a police escort for the entire 350 miles. We moved 5 of these at once and then went back to get the boxes and tires for them.
The red truck is my truck, the black truck you see in one picture is one of the companies that owns the rock trucks truck.
thejdman04 12-04-2007, 07:37 PM nice
calirider 12-04-2007, 07:41 PM Those sure don't look that big behind your truck, that is some major weight. Why did you not use the Dmax to see what she could do :)

Couldn't get the fifth wheel plate to mount properly in the box :D
_nar_ 12-04-2007, 09:13 PM Nice truck.
specialagentPK 12-04-2007, 09:19 PM Thanks I just polished up all the aluminum 4 days prior to the trip.
emerson 12-04-2007, 10:41 PM Hey PK, did you haul the boxes flat? I unloaded and reloaded several new and used ones last winter (crane operator) for the ice road to the diamond mines. Several of the used ones (I think they came from your neck of the woods) came to Yellowknife on edge. I had to unload, lay them down, and reload them flat. It is a 110% effort to lay them down with a 75ton grove by itself.

We'll have to write GM about that

Yes we layed them down flat, we used 2 loaders on one end, a Komatsu Wa600 and a Letourneau loader probably the size of a WA1100 loader, that is it in the background of the pic with the black truck. It is Electric motor driven.
6WHEEL5HAULER 12-05-2007, 03:46 AM You guys do some amazing things up there in the frozen hell. Good Job.
bobdel01 12-05-2007, 07:37 AM that thing is huge, how was your rig pulling all that weight? Im sure it didnt like the crosswinds
specialagentPK 12-05-2007, 01:39 PM They actually pulled pretty nice, some of the major hills I was down to second direct or about 10mph but we would travel at about 50 mph the whole way. And there weren't any crosswinds.
DIESAHL 12-06-2007, 09:13 PM hey emerson were you on that show "ice road truckers" that is pretty amazing to watch what all gets trucked over the ice
AGGAR 12-06-2007, 10:00 PM hey emerson were you on that show "ice road truckers" that is pretty amazing to watch what all gets trucked over the ice
Dang it Sam! I was gonna ask that! So are you an "Ice Road Trucker"? I think it'd be pretty cool, but it'd be kinda scary too feeling the ice heeve underneath you! That Rock truck must be solid steel to weigh that much.
You're red truck looks very similar to the one I drive on the farm!

Mine is the Maroon Aerodyne like yours. You prolly got a little more power than my old Detroit!
emerson 12-06-2007, 10:27 PM No, I'm not an ice road trucker; the money sucks for the hours worked and 20mph for 12 hours each way is WAY too boring:rolleyes:. I have been out on the ice a couple of times but it's like every job, tv can make it look more interesting than it is. I am in the show in a couple scenes though, I run the yellow crane that you saw loading the heavy drum with a white crane. That was the tippy one that Jay hauled. I also loaded the the blue water purification tanks, that was the scene where they put a camera on the hook block that looked straight down on the load. It sounds like lots of loads going this year but at work we haven't heard of many heavy ones coming. I hear from my work buddies that Alex is in negotiations right now for a new season, maybe driving the ice road up to Tuctoyactuc(sp). I found that the new rock truck boxes were lighter because the older ones have a lot of extra steel added to protect against abrasion.

How is he going to get to Tuktoyaktuk? Overland or over the water? I did the over the water trip twice from Inuvik to Tuktoyaktuk over the Mackenzie Bay and Beaufort Sea. Winter of 94 and 96. Neat trip..:D
emerson 12-07-2007, 08:36 PM I don't know any details, my grasp of the geography up there is vague. I would expect that the emphasis would be on ice roads though. Off to google maps to educate myself.;)

You come up into the Yukon and go on the famous Dempster Highway to Inuvik and then on an ice road up the Mackenzie delta and out onto the sea.
I have been twice, once you get out onto the sea all you see is white.
Here is a map.
emerson 12-07-2007, 09:11 PM Thanks for refreshing my memory PK.

Whats the cost of moveing them big dogs
specialagentPK 12-07-2007, 10:13 PM I know that for something like that we charge at least $10 a mile or $150 an hour.
emerson 12-08-2007, 02:38 PM That's just for the truck, not for pilots and permits right?

06bowtie_guy 12-08-2007, 03:15 PM Wow awsome load. Nice looking KW too!!
Heavy haul is awsome stuff. Amazing the technology in some of those trailers. Timisko had one at the truck rodeo with electric over hyd rear steering operated from in the cab. Unreal how sweet it was. I forget what it was rated for but it was pretty high.

Yep no pilot cars and no permits. Actually it is cheap to move with permits here.
I have a 1 month blanket oversize permit for $25
and then the permit to move this for overweight was $50
