Questions, is the LB7 the only model duramax to run a mechanical wastegate? Was there a LB7 duramax with an egr system or was that started with lly? If I were to have seen a Duramax engine how would i identify its code without a VIN number? Last but not least, If there were a mechanically controlled wastegated turbo on a dmax engine with the egr system, would that have any advantage over the electronically controlled wastegate? I know several random questions, but thanks for your help and knowledge!

The 04 LB7 that i have has a EGR system on it

Federal LB7 all had NO egr. They all have a waste gate .

California and most all fleet/lease vehicles with the duramax have EGR systems. We have a 02 and an 03 that both have EGR systems.

Fed spec, no egr, no cat.
8th number is a 1 = LB7
8th number is a 2 = LLY.
LB7 only one with mechanical wastegate.
No clue on the last question.
