Does anyone know what the correct Optima is for our trucks and who to buy them from?

Some are using the deep cycle yellow tops, but most are using the red tops. I just put a pair of red tops in my truck about a month ago - got them from Autozone.

Use the Red Tops as they have higher Cold Cranking Amps. But, be careful as Optima makes two different red tops. Part # 8004-003, model 34/78 is the heavy one and puts out 800+ CCA, and has both top and side terminals making hookups for winches, etc. very easy. They make a lighter red top Part # 8022-091 that only puts out 720 CCA. The yellow tops are best for deep cycle applications like camp trailers, trolling motors, etc. They only put out 750 CCA.

I have used Optima Red tops exclusively in my trucks for many years, replacing the Delco's when I take delivery of the truck. I do a LOT of HD winching of my truck in Mexico and Guatemala. Even though Problem Child thinks I burn up my winch cables (I don't - at least not yet) with a hour of fairly continuous winching (winch and pull cable to new tree, winch and pull cable to new tree - one man or idiot operation), I have yet to destroy or run down an Optima battery. I am extremely happy with their performance.

I took the Red Tops out of my 01 and put them in the 04. The guy who bought the 01 got new Delcos, Poor Guy!

CCA is fine but doesn't say what the capacity is. How many amp-hrs?

I need new batteries! Question is, Red or Yellow? Run an inverter to use Sat.receiver & tv,plus small refridge,in the evening when parked. Any ideas?

Yellow, can be discharged more often without damage. Also, get an isolator to shutdown power to the other battery, so you don't run the risk of killing both batteries and not being able to start.

... Also, get an isolator to shutdown power to the other battery, so you don't run the risk of killing both batteries and not being able to start. This is how my 6.0 gasser was set up. Sure was nice to have the backup power if my camper batteries died.:ro)

Question: Is there enough juice in one battery to start a Duramax?

hmmm I am not sure what an isolator is & where I would get it.

I went with the red tops

However, mine have the side terminals close together toward the center of the battery.

I was in Costco yesterday and they had the red top, but the side terminals were at the ends of the battery.

Anyone know what the difference is????

I use red tops in my trucks and yellow tops in my boat.
