Need some help with my Christmas shopping. I want to get Mama JJ an economical tow tune for her LLY. :D She tows our 5ver (more than I do :( )and I'm thinking it would be nice if she had some additional hp/tq to work with. I've saved up my pennies and have around 500 dollars to spend. Nothing fancy, I don't want to change the exhaust, add an AFE Stage 2, etc., just something to enhance towing with stock features and give her truck;) a little more grunt! Has to be simple and idiot proof. Any thoughts would be very much appreciated.

P.S. Oh by the way, you guys might want to get your wife something for her truck as well! ):h

P.S.S. Mama JJ is going to hurt me when she reads this! Oh the pain, ooohhh the pain! OK, JJ's out! :ro)

JJ ... The Predator may be a good choice. It sells for under $400, it allows multiple power levels (including low level that should work for towing), it can be removed (code unloaded) for trips to the dealer, I think it can adjust for tire size and speed limiter(?), and best of all, it is a scanner that can also check balance rates. Several people who have used one with the LLY have posted good comments in the Performance topic. I do not think it has a function for defueling between shifts and the power levels can not be adjusted on the fly.

If you want to go over $500, then there is always the Edge/Attidude combo. It can be adjusted on the fly, has safe guard features for the transmission, is easy to remove, and has a display with more infomation than you may ever need. Most of the reviews have been positive, especially after the reflash. Unfortuneately you can not make permanent changes for things such as tire size or scan for codes. Your old pen pal from the "Overheating" thread MasterP2 has a good price on them right now.

If you cann't make up your mind, then get her one for Christmas and the other for her birthday, then you will really know what pain is ........

Kennedy has the Juice/Attitude for 610 I believe. A little more dough, but a lot more info in the cab.

What about a Hypertech? I spoke with them the other day and really liked what they had to say. The person I spoke with said that they designed the hypertech to work with the average consumer that wanted more power but did not want to add gauges, exhaust, etc. It was designed to add power but not hurt reliability or create something that could damage the truck if not monitored. (Which sounds like what your wife might need).

After trying the EDGE and Tow Tune; for the money, performance and some adjustability I am very happy with the Predator. Just my $.02

My '02 spends most of its time towing. I tow at higher altitudes (5000' or more), and get really high EGT's (you won't see that at sea level). I like to be able to adjust any power while rolling. Also, in the event that the truck is on the road and needs a dealer, it is nice to be able to remove any device you might have installed.

With the edge or any "box".....you can always unplug it and it will leave no trace. Now...playing what ifs.....say for some reason you can't load you stock program back with your downloader and you have a major issue on the road......now what? Just some food for thought for you guys that want just some extra low risk ponies. Plus the gauges in the attitude....your crazy to run any performance mod...box or tuner with out them....don't care what anybody says.

Keep saving for next year and get the tranny upgraded. . .by that time you could save up enough for the TTS Extreme when it comes out too.

BH, haven't made the final decision yet. My brother-in-law went into the hospital with chest pains on Wednesday and didn't come out until Friday, then went back in today for bypass surgery. Suffice to say we've been busy.:o

But now that he's doing fine and all looks well, I jumped back into the tow tune issue earlier today. Right now I'm leaning towards using 2 systems: (1) the Predator programmer for more hp/tq and towing power; and (2) Water Injection to lower egt's, increase mpg's, more power, better lubrication, etc. I'm gathering intel/prices on the WI systems. I plan to stay mostly stock (for now) and this gives me the power I want and the added protection for the engine.

BTW, Mama JJ hasn't blinked at the prospect of putting more money into her, errr, I mean our truck! ;) Sumpins up? Will advise! JJ
