I'm a bit worried about the towing its under the torque by over 100ftlbs of the new 08's and around 50hp less as well . But I wonder if the truck motor will be a little more powerful ? I realize my #'s are off a bit .Would be real nice to know the mpg .

But it wasn't all that long ago that those numbers were the best you could get. Sure, if you're doing some serious pulling then this might not be enough, but if that's the case you shouldn't be buying a 1/2 ton in the first place.

I didn't realize this was only for a 1/2 ton.Is this true ? If thats the case I have no issue because I have no need for a 1/2 ton .

The wife wants a bigger car(currently driving a Accord). This sounds like it would be a great motor in a Tahoe. Any idea what the MPG's are on it?

Yeah the 4.5 is going to be used for the 1/2 tons and some of the SUVs, but there will still be a bigger engine for the 3/4 and 1 ton models, and considering the power for the displacement on this engine, I'm really looking forward to seeing what they're planning for the bigger trucks.

And the plot thickens lol.And now my deal is should I wait for a while and buy a truck equiped with this new engine ? I plan to keep my next truck for a lotta years ( at least 10-12).I have a lot of dreams but the money tree is getting thinner by the second .

You're looking at power numbers of 300-310hp and ~520lb ft. of torque for a 1/2 truck or Suburban/Tahoe. Compared to what you get with the gassers, thats not bad at all. And if you think you need more, then you have the 6.6L that will still be in the 3/4 and 1 ton trucks. I really don't think there is anything to worry about power wise when it comes to these engines. They are having a lot of problems with the Ford Lion V-8, which will be in the F-150 and Expedition and their power numbers will not be able to match up with the lil' Dmax, and Dodge will be using a Cummins V-6 or V-8 in the Ram 1500 and Durango, which will have pretty good numbers to match the GM engine.

This was resolved a couple responses later I understand now that these are for 1/2 tons so it won't pose a problem for me .

Did you guys catch the fact that the engine was in a 2500 suburban?
Look at the part of the video where they show the "sticker"
At the top, if I am not mistaken, it says Suburban..
SWEET. Just what I have been waiting for, a burban with a DMAX under the hood..

I spy lights on the rear fenders, bringing back quadrasteer?
Those look to be the marker lights. Anyone get a good look at the rear end?
Where did you get that picture from?
HMMMMMM. That would be the ULTIMATE tow/people/anything hauler.
Good Mileage and power, ability to move 9 people, quadrasteer, so you can park the thing at the mall and not take out 3 cars while parking.

Don't think Quadrasteer will be in the mix. There wasn't enough demand when they had it out. The pics look like the axle isn't Quadrasteer. Plus is wasn't as strong to support as much weight and also it didn't come with a locker. I hope it comes back though, always wanted one.

Next to getting the diesel, the Quadrasteer option was one of the most expensive ones to add on to a truck. A great idea, and I too would love to have a truck with it (I can just imagine how tight of a spot you could back up a trailer into with it) but the demand was so low mainly because of the price tag. If they can't find a way to build it and offer it for less money, its a thing of the past.

Is that really a burb? it looks too short to me. maybe it is just the angle. What really pi$$es me off is that ford is putting a diesel in the 150 and it is supposed to be the first half ton truck with a diesel in it when chevy put a diesel motor in their half ton trucks like 15 years earlier, why did everybody forgot about those. Sorry, little off topic, kinda read the quasi-political thread and i wanted to vent

Not to worry, GM is putting one in the 1/2 Silverado as well, along with Dodge. From the sound of it, Ford could be the last of the big 3 to have it's 1/2 ton diesel under it's hood. I remember a friend of my dad's having one of the early 1/2 diesels, now that was a rattler!

The flares on the rear fenders are to help keep the axle under the body. It has been advertised several times that there will be a wider axle similar to the width of the QS axle. The wider axle helps improve stability. The clearance lights are a Dept of Transport requirement because of the overall width of the vehicle. Once you hit the point that requires the side clearance lights, you are also required to add the roof markers and rear lights. As for the QS being an expensive option while it was available, yeah, it was at first because they charged what they thought they could get people to pay at the time. By 2005 when it was finally offered on Chevy ½ tons and the ½ HD trucks, it was only a $1200 option. I'll guarantee they weren't losing money at that price either!!! I sure wish QS was coming back. It is the favorite part of my truck.

Will the tahoe have the 4.5 diesel

Coolbreeze
01-15-2008, 10:03 PM
I honestly question if the Suburban or Tahoe gets that motor just because then including inflation that they would likely be at or over $60K. That makes them at the very extreme high point of the market . Like at Land Cruiser price. How many Land Cruisers do you see on the road?

fire0021
01-16-2008, 03:53 AM
they will be in the tahoe for sure look at a nbs tahoe theres almost enough room for a 6.6 in there the new motor should fit nicley price point might be ok becuse diffrent trim levels. but will have to see what the added cost is for the little dmax

The mirrors are the only thing I don't like about it - if the price isn't much more than an LT3 2500 burb and its getting upper 20's for MPG - I'll probably be selling my truck for one of those.

If the entire hot exhaust is getting dumped into the turbocharger it should last about 10 minutes before it gets clogged with soot and catches fire!
Seriously, if everyone is blocking the EGR on their 6.6 Duramax to avoid sooting the turbo, this just doesn't make sense to me unless there is some way that the fuel is burned perfectly in the cylinders all the time. Furthermore, if the purpose of EGR is draw less oxygen into the cylinder to cool the reaction, fuel in the absence of oxygen will not burn
completely and you get a vicious cycle that ends up like my first sentence; turbo gets smoked! I bet they are designed to last just until the warranty expires.

Veggie, who bought a Duramax on the naive notion of running it on vegoil

The 4.5 would be perfect for the Acadia. The crappy little V6 doesn't cut it. It would make huge improvements on it's gas milage too.

Like the new burb :D But it sure does seem to have a big nose. Look at that grille, headlight assembly, and bumper!! Also - i thought the 2500 series burb was dropped and that that was the reason the burb didnt get the 6.6 dmax. If they can bring the 2500 back (and thus be allowed to have HD truck emissions) then why cant it get the 6.6? Still yet, these numbers are absolutly impressive to me. It will be interesting to see how these performe over time. Id buy one in the future in a few years if they prove themselfs well. I tend to worry about things that seem almost too good to be true. And usually its for a good reason. Still like the sound of it tho. :)

the cord is used when they do auto shows, if the lights are getting left on for long periods of time it will drain the battery so they plug them into an electrical outlet. as far as the front its just a matter of personal opinion. and as far as the turd shining, i doubt i would ever buy a ford;)
