Hey everyone,

I have a 2004 D/A LLY and am wanting to see about getting a remote starter because I park my truck outside the garage and it takes 20 minues to warm up (with the truck set on high idle). I was wondering if anyone has had any success installing a remote starter on the D/A? I don't really need an alarm system but if that is what it takes I'll get one because I would really like to get this add on. Thanks.

I install lots of them. Many members here have installed them on their own vehicles. No problems at all.

The only difference between installing a remote starter on a diesel truck compared to a gas truck is that the remote starter has to wait for the glow plugs to shut off. Most good remote starters have an input wire to sense when the wait to start light is on. When the light goes off it will start the truck.

Don't get a remote starter that has a timed delay to wait for the glow plugs. You want it to monitor the wait to start light because it will vary depending on temperature.

Check out www.astroflex.com they make a great product and offer all the features you need for your duramax.

I've done the Astrostart install twice now(once for myself and once to assist Maverick). It seems a little overwhelming at first but with the proper guidance(Max Power) just about anyone can get it done in their garage with a few hours of time.

A great investment for those cold winter mornings, and a great guy to deal with.

Victory Red is correct. I wouldn't be afraid to tackle the job again by myself after doing one. Thanks again Rick. Max Power, the 2205 is working awesome. Max is the "Man".

So how much is the 5204 with all the available add-ons like glass sensor, motion sensor, defroster, etc. Where do you purchase them, the closest dealer is 581 miles away from me.

I asked the same question...the closest dealer is 360 miles from me.

Send Max Power a PM.....He will take care of everything from there. If you can operate a soldering gun, you can install yourself and then you know its not a hack job by some high school kid working at the install shop after school.

How much of the truck has to be torn apart for the install ? Mave - You did the install yourself ? Any special tools required, besides soldering iron ?
Thanks

My 2205 is just the remote start. If you want an alarm and sensor glass stuff, I can't help you. Victory Red helped me install because he did one before and I wans't sure about installing. After getting into it, it was pretty easy with Max Powers detailed instructions. Everything solders into the harness under the steering column. No other special tools other than a Xacto (sp) knife and black tape and zip ties.
