: Allison mods for towing longevity?

I have been lurking on this site for months and have learned a lot about my truck....thank you....I felt it was time to say hi and ask the questions that I am wrestling with. I plan on keeping my 07' LBZ for a very long time. I have an intake, exhaust and the Edge Evolution. I do not race or pull sleds. I pull 10-12k of 5th wheel and actually pull a pup behind it. I live in Ogden Utah and everywhere I go from here is UP & DOWN and usually, "at altitude". In January I want to put a TC, transgo jr., better trans cooler and deeper pan in it. I would like to tow on the EVO stage 2 and honestly....tow pretty hard, but not wreckless w/ the throttle. My questions are these....

Can I get away from changing clutches? This truck has 12,000 miles on it and has never been limped or close to it.

Will these mods hold the stage 2 EVO w/ longevity?

I was planning on using the ATS 5 star, In fact I was pretty set on that until I grew to respect the opinions of some of the members of this forum, ie; many of you like the SC and now I am unsure. Which TC would be better for my application? Also, which trans cooler? The Transco jr. is the obvious choice and I am unaware of any "real" difference in the 3-4 choices of deeper pans. I also plan on running a syn trans fluid.

ALL opinions are welcome and I would like to hear MikeL's thoughts as well as the boys from ATS.

Thanks guys...

Eric

I just installed a Transgo Jr today - installed in about 4 hours and is said to increase the holding capacity an additional 50 hp or so. With this, and a mild tow tune, and your current and other planned mods you are definately on your way to some decent towing capability! If you need more, looks like a visit to Mike L or another Suncoast dealer for possibly a Stage 3 build?

Guys....

can you tell me what the Stage 3 build consists of?

Suncoast 1056 converter, Alto clutches, C1 through C4 ( C5 not needed ), Transgo shift kit with both filters.

Mike...
Since the stage 3 utilizes the SC 1056, is that the TC that you would recomend without doing the stage 3...in other words, along w/ the jr. (for my application)? Or the 1057? I don't think I am ready for the stage 3.....but I am uncertain on the two SC TC's alone w/ the jr..

I would run the 1056 and JR. kit for what you want to do. I would take it easy and especially tow at the stock power level until you get those things done. -Mat-

I would also recommend either Transynd synthetic fluid, availible from an Allison dealer, or Mobil 1 Synthetic fluid.

Also from everything I hear, Mike Ls tranny cooler is most excellent!

I pulled heavier than you plan on pulling with a weaker tranny ('05 5 speed stock) with my edge juice w/***. on 2/2 and never had a problem. I have my foot in it most of the time and we have pretty good grades to pull also. I think what you are planning is plenty for the evo on level 2.

I have SC 1057, Transgo Jr. pump kit, stock clutches. Towed with Edge on level 4 no problem. Now running EFILive with no problems. Was told this was just like the SC III without Altos. Mine only had about 12K on it when it was done, almost 30k now

Thanks guys.....I finally found the other posts on the differences between the three most poular SC TC's. Looks like the 1056 is the one for me. I will install it with the jr., cooler upgrade (probably Mike's), deeper pan and a syn. fluid. I think I will keep the stock clutches for now. Thanks for the input.
