I wouldn't recommend this for anyone who lives south of I-80 or tows.

Had it like this for 2 weeks, even at 40 deg outside, temp never went above 200. Engine warms up faster and fuel mileage up a solid 2 mpg.

All I need now is a summer solution.

I thought about doin that. I never tow heavy. The most I haul is about 5000 pounds with a car trailer and a car. I was wondering just how much better fuel economy would be with electric fans. 2mpg would make up the cost pretty quick! The only thing is that I NEVER hear my fan on. The only time I hear it engaged is when the truck sits and is cold.

I havnt had a fan on my truck for over a year...You can take the whole clutch off also the only time starts to get warm is when sitting in traffic.. I have even towed my 53 foot featherlite with 2 cars in it

I figured I needed to leave the clutch on to hold the pulley on (I'm pretty sure I don't have a nut that size in the junk drawer).

Do you notice any trans temp issues when towing in traffic?

Why does the fan only roar when you first start the truck and it's cold out.. doesn't make sense to me

That nut doesn't hold the pully on, you can take the clutch off. It'll be fine. I have electric fans on my 1/2 ton, and never had any issues with temps over 95 when playing in the mud working the poo outa my 383. When designed right, and used in conjunction with a shroud, electric fans work just as well, if not better than a clutch fan.

It says on the Fan Damn site that they are working on an LBZ fan. Does anyone know if it works for the 2006+ trucks?

The fluid in the clutch takes a while to get re-oriented. Until it does the clutch is not disengaged enough.

I also took the thing off because I thought the fan ran (even partially) more often than it needed to. I'm not seeing any difference in engine temps at all. If I can figure out a way to adjust it so it comes on later or slower I will.

I wish GM had put a real clutch on the fan, one that is on or off, not one that just moderates speed. Guys I've talked to that put the on/off kits on their Dodge's are very happy.

Its because the clutch uses a silicone oil and a kind of stator to facilitate is variable rate speed controll. When its cold out the oil inside is thick and the speed controll is diminished.

Yes it works and there are people here who are using it. If you are interested, I'd PM serpa4. He has one he is selling because he tows too heavy for it. That mechanical fan we have moves a ton of air. More than you can get electrics to move in the space we have to put them.
At any rate, serpa4 has one he's selling for 450 shipped if you want a used one.

NO! You mount it to the bumper in front of the left rear brake light. There is no tailgate in the picture.

Exactly!

This way, when driving, the thrust from the spinning fan will increase your mileage, dontcha know....;)

screw spal fans, I think you could run 2 lincoln mark VIII or taurus fans and controll them with 2 Delta current controllers (dccontrol.com).

The Mark VIII fan has been proven to move 4300CFM at 14.4V, no aftermarket fan tested even came close. Two of them would be more than enough for towing, although you would likely need to upgrade to dual alt's as each fan will pull about 40 amps while running 100%.

Actually you need some titanium wood screws to attach it to the taillight.

Make sure it spins the right way or the truck will drift to the left.
