: Repack front bearings at 15K?

<!--StartFragment -->Went to the dealer for an oil change and one of the recommended things to do on the invoice at 15k miles was repack the front wheel bearings.
How necessary is this?
On my old 1500 Z71 I had to replace the right front hub due to a failed bearing and it wasn't cheap!

Does anyone have a procedure for doing this or is it pretty straight forward?

It also recommended 'Induction Service' Code Z26 on the invoice.
What's that?

Did they give you a reason for the front bearing re-pack?

Just says "Based on current milage the above is recommended"
it lists alingment, rotaet tires, air filter, oil, differental service etc etc

The front bearings on these trucks are a permanently sealed unit bearing assembly. They can not be re-packed and it is not necessary.

If I were you I'd find another dealer. Just my.02.

Alignment - Doesn't need to be done unless you notice it pulling to one side, should be done when you get new tires all the same - IMHO.

Air Filter - I know GM recommends 25k filter change intervals for my 5.3 - can't see it being a shorter interval for you...

Differential Service - I'd only do it if it hasn't been done since your first 500 miles of towing... once you get the crap from breakin out of there you shouldn't ever have to change it. Some may disagree, but no one is going to tell you to do it every 15k. Except the stealership.

Wheel Bearings - As said above, cannot be repacked. Sealed unit. The dealer is flat lying to you. You should get face to face with them and see what they say when you tell 'em the bearings can't be repacked! I'd love to know what they think at that moment...

Sounds to me like the real fix is a new dealer.
