Like Heath noted, Amsoil Synthetic 5W40 (DEO) Premium Diesel oil. I run it year round in my truck - my truck is a lot quieter and my fuel mileage went up to and has remained steady at 19.5 mpg unloaded at freeway speed.

Mobil 1 Delvac ESP 5W-40. Fully synthetic and CJ-4.

U sure that Mobile 1 Delvac 5w-40 synthetic is CJ-4 rated?? According to Mobil, it's not.

Exceptional resistance to high-temperature varnish and low-temperature sludge deposits to help keep engines clean.
Its wide viscosity range provides outstanding protection consistent with an SAE 40 grade oil at high temperatures, combined with the easy cold-start performance of a 5W rated oil.For diesel engines, Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck:

Meets CI-4, CH-4, CG-4, CF-4 and CF.
Is recommended for diesel-powered pickup trucks built by Ford, General Motors, GMC and Dodge.

Wow, Vin63, 19.5 in a dually? I think you're my hero. I'm struggling to maintain 14 combined.......

My daily combined mpg is usually around 15 (75% in town and 25% freeway). If I can keep my speed at 65 mph on the freeway, I see the best fuel economy. Faster than 70 mph, my fuel economy drops off sharply.

Save your energy. Just order it and have it shipped right to your door:)

X2...just shipped a couple gallons of the Amsoil Premium Diesel oil and five gallons of Torque-Drive to fellow DP member TallOne.

If you remove your EGR, you are better off with CI4.

With or without the egr the oil still is gonna create a lil more black smoke than the cj-4... it not like the oil takes the clearance away between the rings and the cylinder... that lil bit still gets burned

Like Heath noted, Amsoil Synthetic 5W40 (DEO) Premium Diesel oil. I run it year round in my truck - my truck is a lot quieter and my fuel mileage went up to and has remained steady at 19.5 mpg unloaded at freeway speed.
First oil change I used Rotella 15W40 and a Napa oil filterand everything was great. Second oil change I went to Amsoil 5W40 and Amsoil filter. Truck has picked a noticable tick and there is no way my mileage is any better. I'm not bashing Amsoil either, I'm a dealer and have it in everything from cars down to the weedwacker, but I'm not happy at this point. I'm thinking of going back to the Rotella and see if the ticking stops. I know its colder out, but I'm talking when the truck is up to running temps. It's noticeably louder.

Valve train issues? I talked with an unhappy LMM owner on Friday who mentioned he had to have valve springs replaced recently (power and fuel mileage was down), and he mentioned that there was a ticking noise getting progressively louder. Let us know if the change back to Rotella stops the noise.

Just got done changing the oil and putting Rotella back in. I'll give it a few days and see what happens. My mileage is down a little, I figured it was the colder weather and possibly the winter blend fuel? If the ticking doesn't stop, back to the dealer. I understand it's a diesel and it's going to be a little noisy, but this sounds like my old 76 Grand Prix that had a lifter tick after the mileage went way over 100,000.
