ok well the drivetrain forum wouldnt help any. Ok question is will the read end with disk brakes from a dmax work on my 93? and does any dmax's have 4:10s cause i dont want to change the ratio.

The DMAX earlier on was offered with 4.10 gears, but it is an 11.5" ring gear unit. The 6.0 was offered with the 10.5" 14 bolt like the earliewr trucks were offered with. You could probably swap one in, but would most likely have to have the spring perch's moved and other such mounts made to match up. I don't know about the width though?

i would think it would bolt in just need to change the valve for the disc brakes

Dieselnut how many RPM's are you running at 60 mph? I have a 3.73 and plan on swaping over to a 4.10. Is there any difference between the 3500 and the 2500 other then the rear end?

How many lug nuts ya got? 6 or 8? May make tire rotation interesting...

I think i have that add a leaf dieal so. A friend of mine told me that if i replaced the back to a 4.10 then i would have to change the front. but as of right now im running 60 mph at 2500 lol like i said lol

I dont think 2 different gear ratios in a 4x4 would be a good thing.

I have a 93 and was considering this swap also. I aquired an axle out of a 2005 DMAX 2500. As far as just swapping the brakes, the outer axle flange( where the backing plate bolts to) has a different bolt pattern, and it's just close enough that if you were to try to redrill the holes they would overlap. Your best bet is to swap an entire axle in, however you would have to cut and reweld the spring perches since the frames on 2001 and up HD's are wider. You would also have to change the proportioning valve since disk brakes require more fluid pressure. As far as the ratio goes, the DMAX wasn't offered with 4.10's in a pickup (at least I've never seen it listed as an option) but you could alway's replace the gears. As thefermanator pointed out the axle in a DMAX truck is the newer style 14 bolt with an 11.5 inch ring gear. And yes if you truck is a 4x4 the front and rear axle ratio do have to be the same.

Wouldnt the master cylinder need to be changed also?

As far as I know just the proportioning valve. But I could be wrong.

Kinda figured that. But good lord. 60 or 65mph and 2500 rpms. Thats kinda high in over drive (nv4500) aint it?

It's best if you swap the master cylinder as well. The disk brakes require more fluid capacity in the reservoir. As your brakes wear, the pistons move outwards further and further. The standard disc/drum master cylinder has a large and a small reservoir holding in it. Large for your front disc, and the small one for the drums. A 4 wheel disc reservoir is MUCH larger to hold enough fluid to permit the piston travel needed for break wear. It's not the end of the world, but can be a PITA.

Duramax truck has wider spring perch locations than 88 to 2000 trucks

x2. You summed it up in a nutshell.

ok well is there anyone who offers a disk brake upgrade for the old one tons? and how much would it cost to get a rear end rebuilt because i have horrible road noise from it. andsince the dmax axle aint goin to work ill just upgrade the brakes and redo the gears.

TURBINEDOC recently did a rear disc brake upgrade on his 2500. PM him for the company name and see if they offer a kit for yours.
