Around here we don't exactly have an organization to pull under so going by the rules isn't really an option so I figured I'll ask you guys if this would be legal under your local sanctioning body. I'm installing my new pulling reciever and building a new adjustable hitch for this year. My question is most rules say the hook point (pintle ring in my case) has to be the furthest point back. Now does this mean that the whole ring has to be furthest point back or just that the tip of the ring is past the bed floor still making the furthest thing back. Also I am not running a bumper or a tailgate. This new sedtup is gonna be great but don't spend the time making an adjustable hitch and it not be legal.

The entire ring should not have to go beyond the bed. The "hook point" is the inside of the pintle ring, farthest away from the receiver. That should be all that has to stick out beyond the bed of the truck. So basically, the pintle should stick out at least the thickness of the ring. So whats that? 1" 1-1/4" diam. on the ring? I'd probably go a little more than that just to feel safe about it. You will want to make sure the hook can get in the hitch relatively easy. i.e. no interference with the bed or something.

good luck.

A lot of rules say no underbed pulling hitches, which is interpreted by the tech official. To be safe and not have to worry about being legal, I would have all of the inside of the ring behind the bed.

and technically the bedsides stick past the floor a couple of inches.
like some else said if you back up againt a plumb wall the ring needs to be touching and maybe by a couple of inches to be 'legal'.

make different holes in the receiver so you can move it if the rules change.

I don't want to hi-jack this thread but does anyone know what DHRA will be doing in 2008 with this subject??? I saw something about going to a percentage of wheelbase to come up with a diminsion for hook-point behind C/L of axle. I read on this hear ( I think) and never really got a good understanding.
I ask because I am considering moving mine foward but as the O/P stated, I don't want to waste my time for nothing!
I'm not sure if the DHRA rules will be the "norm" for other local tracks that want to adopt a set of rules this coming year, but it seemed to be that way last year.
I am concerned mostly with Steet and Super Street.
BTW, I have the 2007 rule book, just wondering if that is gonna' change???
