I have an 83 6.2 and I needed some glow plugs because mine the terminals had rusted off ( truck was sitting for three years before i got it) and a friend of mine has a 6.5 which he just put new glow plugs in. He gave me his old ones so i could see if the truck will run the ones he gave me are 11g's and the ones that came out of mine were 9g's. Are the 11g's alright to use in the 6.2. If so what is the difference between them(temp rating ?). thanks

9gs heat up really fast and are prone to burn out. 11gs are a good balance of faster heat and reliability. 60gs take several cycles to heat up, 11gs are the best all around.

11G plugs also mushroom so I would replace them with 60G's. I started with 9G's, then 11G's, then Champions, and finally the 60G's. I have heard of numerous engines experiencing mushrooms with the first three, but not the 60G's. I had failures on the first three types, but I was lucky to not have a mushroom. My 60G's have over 100,000 miles on them and no failure so far.

Cougarjohn's correct. I have 11G's in mine and have suffered a mushroomed tip. I still use them because I have had access to a few free ones from core engines. When used up. I'll switch to the 60's. (Too cheap to throw anything out that still work.)

Ahhhh... This makes perfect sense now...

I replaced my 9Gs last summer because they went from about a 5 second warm-up to like 20 secs. When I got the 11G's I found that my time delay might have been due to 3 out of 8 wires being off!!! Oh well, I replaced them anyhow, and the cycle time on the 11G's is INCREDIBLY long (timed 25 seconds).

And if you're wondering why I didn't look first before replacing... It's in a full-size van, so I had to pull the inside shell off to get at it, and if I was going that far, I was damned sure turning a wrench!

Funny... When I opened it up and was working on it, I found a 15mm Snap-on socket. About 10 minutes later, I lost my 13mm craftsman socket somewhere inside her... LOL...
