I just ordered 4 gallons of Amsoil 15-40 HD diesel oil, the AE052 filter and 2 bottles of the flush. On the Amsoil site I think I found to sets of instructions for flushing both say to use a bottle for every 5 quarts right? And not to over fill the crankcase. But they differed at that point one said to change the filer first then flush then change the filter again (as did one of the longer closed threads here) then the other said just run the flush with the old filter on it. I bought the truck 3300 miles ago and it shows 33% oil life on it now. So I wanted to get this done tonight but should I wait and go get a throwaway filter? Thanks for any help.

my suggestion is to not even use the flush with your diesel. i didn't with mine. how many miles are on the truck?

I would steer away from a flush on any engine. It could break loose up enough crap that it totally clogs up your filter, then the pressure bypass built into ALL filters will open, then you have a bunch of crap flowing through your bearings and turbo and no place good. If you must do this, start with a new filter that way the the gunk holding capacity is maximum and not partially full. I can't emphisize enough that this is not a good idea.

I agree - I would not use the flush.

Hum that is a different opinion then I have read. Just so you guys know the flush is only in there for 20 minutes and the motor is only to idle no driving. Still think it would be a bad idea? i now see why i want a new filter in there to do this.

Sorry there is 26,000 miles on her. No mods were ever done.

At 26K, I don't think a flush would hurt anything, but again, at 26K, I would hope you wouldn't need a flush.

I'm not a big fan of flushing engines anyway. If it sludged up, take the covers off and clean it right.

Flushing belongs to toilets. :D

I think I read on the Amsoil site that if you don’t flush you should make the first oil change sooner. But it sounds like it might be safer then risking any damage the flush might cause. Well I think you guys have saved me some time and my neighbors 20 minutes of listing to my truck idling. Anyone need to buy some flush? 

There's no way to tell how long it will take to clog a filter or if it will at all, it may only take 1 min to totally stop up your filter then there's sh** flowing through every thing and re-depositing where there wasn't sh** before. At that point damage has already been done, and that cancels out any good of having clean(er) engine internals. If you don't care about crap potentially circulating through your engine and turbo (what your trying to prevent right?), then why worry about flushing it at all?

Not much of an engine flush fan, either, especially if you only have 26K miles. If you're just making a switch from conventional to synthetic, the oil you purchased will have a cleaning effect. You can do a filter change mid-interval if you think there is a lot of sludge in the crankcase. I normally change my oil every 6K miles and change my oil filter every 3K miles.

GM says "change" not "flush."

yes, if you don't use the flush, your first oil change will be sooner, but oh well. its not that the flush is going to hurt anything, its just not necessary especially with it only have 26,000 miles on it. i have ran amsoil for years and only used the flush on gas engines and never on my diesels.

At 26,000 there should be no need for a flush. After 75000 to 100000, then there might be reason if you wanted to. If you don't flush, the more miles you have, the sooner you might want to do the first oil change as it will do some cleaning as mentioned.
IF the flush is done, I recommend changing the filter( a cheaper version), run the flush, and then change oil and filter.
You were correct one bottle per 5 qt. Another reason for putting on a filter before the flush is that will remove an amount of oil that is close to the amount of flush that you need to put in, as you don't want to over fill.

Okay, I am totally on board. I got the oil on my porch last night. I love that order on Tuesday there on Thursday. I will order a few more filters I don’t know why I did not order more. But Vin63 I don’t think I will change as often as you. The main reason for me to change is to extend the time between changes. Their just never seams to be enough time in the day for everything. That being said should I change my filer after the first 3K and then the oil at 10K this time due to switching to synthetic and then after that should I just do a filter every 5K and oil at 20K as I only tow a few hundred miles a month if at all. Or should I do the oil analyses thing? where do you get that done?
Thanks again for all the help guys.

If extending your oil changes to 20K, you should do the oil analysis.

You can change the filter at 5k and extend the oil to 10k the first time. Then after that, a filter every 5-7k would work and you can go to 15k(severe service), unless you do an OA. If using the amsoil filter, it can go the same 15k.
One OA company is amsoil's. You can find the kits in the online store.
