I finally got a new truck. Well not brand new but its new to me.

I got a 2002 creww cab long wheel base 4x4 with the duramax/alison combo.

Now all I have to do is figure out what to do with it:D

What oils and filters do most of you use? and are there some things I should do right away besides an oil/ filter change?

I would change all the liquids like the front and rear diffs, tranny, transfer case, and engine oil. The radiator and brake systme should be fine until the normal flushing roatation.
After that read this forum for any concerns that you may have about somthing. More than likely someone here has had to deal with it.

There was a thread on here about Maintance and other things to do to your truck along the way. I would find that thread and go through it. Also as far as power you can search that too and find all different types of answers to the questions you have not even thought about asking yet... Good luck and welcome...

First I would get the VIN run to find out the trucks history known to GM. A dealer should do this for you and if you can't find one easily aske for help on this forum, there are some guys hefre that can. Suspect you already know that the engine warranty has been extended but I'm not sure what it is. I'd ask a dealer that to. Keep a paper trail of everything you do so as be able to prove what preventative maintenance you do. Even if you do your own lube's,oil/filter changes, keep the reciepts to prove you bought the stuff to do it with. No fuel additives with alchohol in them. I'd use regular high quality 15W4o oil, Good filters like Baldwin, Carquest, Wix, OEM , Mobil One( tops I think). Fuel filters don't make much difference as thy are all made by Racal no matter who's name is on them. OEM air filters are the best and next I would use Baldwin. Don't get caught in the game of performance filters versus quality air cleaning filters. K&N/ UNI and some others are good performance filters but they don't stop much dirt according to test results I've seen on this forum. Get your fuel from a station that sells a lot of diesel. If your in a cold climate you want to use special winter fuel additives(no alchohol in it).Be sure your oil is diesel rated. I wouldn't waste my money on pure synthetic oil as you still have to change it at regular intervals unless you use scheduled oil analysis and its exceptable to your dealer. Enjoy your t ruck.):h

advise so far has been very good ... when you check the vin number, have them give you a build date.... those built prior to Jan. 1, 2002 have '01 injectors and are subject to the warranty extension (7 years/200,000 miles) ... not sure if those built after Jan. 1, 2002 have the same extension
