I am experiencing a pretty bad wobble in my truck. It begins at 40 mph and stays until about 55 mph, around there it turns into more of a vibration than a wobble as speed increases. Below 40 its a smooth ride. Between 40-55 you can see it in the steering wheel. It started about 1000 miles ago and is getting worse. My tires have about 15,000 on them and appear to be wearing evenly. They have started to slightly cup on the inside but, its barely noticeable to the naked eye. I am due for an alignment check and a balance but, it seems to me to be to severe to be something that could be balaced out or fixed in alignment. I am looking for any suggestions or advice.
Thanks!!
Oh and the tires have been rotated every 4000 miles.

It's probably a shifted cord causing a bump on one of the tires. Get the wheels off the ground one at a time and spin them with something up close to it such as a milk crate. Look for high and low spots. It shouldn't be hard to find if you feel it that much.

Normally, if a belt has seperated on a tire, you will feel it at all speeds, not just certain times. Have you hit anything hard with the front end? Have you verified that all steering components are tight and that there is no slop in there somewhere. I like the balance as well. You could have lost some wheel weights. That could affect it as well.

OK guys, I just got home from my buddies shop. We did a thourough inspection of the front end and the tires and wheels. All we found is when you jack the front end up and grab a tire at the 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock position with someone holding the steering wheel steady. Is there is some pretty good play back and fourth (about an inch or so)in the steering without the steering wheel moving. We did this while my buddy inspected the steering components. He said that the only thing that looked like it wasn't moving like everything else is at the steering box. He said thats where it looked like the play was at. So I'm still not sure what it is. This problem seems to come and go. Sometimes it seems a lot worse than others. I am lost. I'm going to the tire shop in the morning and get the tires re-balanced. We will see. Thanks for the advice!!

Hard to believe at only 15kmile your shock could be gone, BUT...
My Older truck had the same symtoms, only after hitting bumps...had to slow down hard to get tire/stearing wheel bounce to stop. Changing the front shocks fixed it. Still some stearing wheel vibration over bumps, but dosen't get out of control....wish I had waited for the Bilsteins, instead of Monroe Gas-Magnum...but they did fix major vibration cheap and fast.

I once had a similar situation in my 94 burban and it was a combo of pitma/ idler/ steer stabilizer, and maybe front shocks, but not so much the shocks...
you can also pull up to thw alignment shop and ask, hey can you check out my ride real quick??

Well after spending the afternoon at the tire shop we finally found it. There is something wrong with one of the tires. They pulled all of them off and balanced them. All but the problem tire balanced out just right. The problem tire did balance out too according to the machine but, even after the machine showed "0.00" you could still see the tire hopping on the machine when it was spinning. We put the bad tire on the back and the ride smoothed out almost perfect. You can still feel it hopping in the back but not much at all. I'm going back in the morning and their going to see if they can determine exactly whats wrong with the tire. I suspect its what a few of ya'll said, a broken belt or shifted cord. The tire looks all smooth on the outside. What are some ways to tell whats wrong with it? Thanks for all thr replys and advice!!!
