I am fairly new to the forum but have been reading with interest the thread about disconnecting the EGR. Since I do not know who the Techs are, (and whether or not they have already answered this questions in the other sections) I decided to come to this forum directly and ask the Techs the following:
Is there any advantage to disconnecting the EGR?
Are there any long term (or short term) disadvantages?
Warranty considerations?
Mine is a 2004 LLY.
Would appreciate answers from qualified GM Diesel mechanics please.

BM, I have to be honest with you, the best information your gonna find on this is in those threads pertaining to it. Many many people have done this and will be able to provide direct feedback on it.
Advantage that I can see is no more soot going into engine/oil. Cleaner oil.
D/ATECH, does the finger stick look like it will stop the mass air flow sensor from trying to compensate for a plugged EGR system. Will the turbo stop closing to create back pressure. Thanx Geo.

D/ATECH, let me expand on my initial questions. I really want to know if you techs are seeing any damage (in your professional opinion) on the engines when the egr is disconnected or if the egr is connected. You guys see them in the shops and are in the best position to see what is actually going on.
Thanks
Fingers

geo, Dtech has no information on the stick to pass on.
Thanx Fingers. I didn't know DTech was the only one that would reply. Just interested in a daily workers point of view or opinion from experience. Thanx Geo.
