I've got 8K on my 07 classic. Oil was changed by the dealer at 2K. So far we have towed an RV fifth wheel about 3K of those miles. I'm good with mechanical maintenance, just new to this truck.

I would like to start doing the oil changes myself, a couple questions.

1) At what mileage should I switch to synthetic? I am going to use Rotella T, just torn between the 15-40 regular or 5-40 synthetic.

2) what is the capacity of this truck?

3) What oil change intervals should I go with?

4) where can I get oil, fuel, and transmission filters cheaply? what brands should I use?

5) interval for fuel filter exchange?

6) interval for transmission filter exchange?

7) what should be done at the same time? I got wheel rotations, wondering what grease fittings need to be hit.

thanks!

I'd start by checking out the manual. It has most of the answers to your questions.
Although most of us change fluids a bit earlier than stated there.

Most switch to synthetic after 3-4 oil changes using regular dino oil.

2) what is the capacity of this truck?

Are you referring to oil capacity? 10 quarts at each oil/filter change.

3) What oil change intervals should I go with? I change mine every 5k. Some go longer.

4) where can I get oil, fuel, and transmission filters cheaply? what brands should I use? Check the supporting vendor section here. OEM oil and fuel filters are popular, as are Baldwin and WIX. I only use the Allison brand external spin on tranny filter.

5) interval for fuel filter exchange? I did mine every 10k before I added the pre-filter.

6) interval for transmission filter exchange? Some do every 10k for the spin on. I did the first one at 2k, and then every 20k thereafter.

7) what should be done at the same time? I got wheel rotations, wondering what grease fittings need to be hit. There are 11 zerks to be lubed in the front end.

Look at the Sticky at the top of this forum. It has some great information and some attachments on maintenance and intervals and ect.

Change the gear oil in the rear end now.

Change the gear oil in the rear end now.

Any guides on how to do that - that's one I've never done before.

It has drain and fill plugs.
Don't be surprised if the oil is gray and the magnet on the drain plug is covered with metal when you drain it. It's from the the gears "braking in".

Nice guy BudTX!

There is a PDF file here on DP about changing the rear fluid. Real easy

A nice sit down with your manual would probably be a good idea.
