LOL... I assume you mean Truck Batteries...

I have used Optima in the past and liked them, however, when my last truck needed a new battery, I bought an Orbital from Checker Auto (it's an EXIDE battery) which has the same technology as the Optima at a lower price. Worked great when I sold it at 5 years old (the battery was 5 years old).

Here is a review of it:

I run dual yellow top Optima batteries. no more leaky GM batteries for me. I have had them in 2 trucks now, and never had any problems. Plus I wanted some extra power for my plow too...

Red top Optima's work for me. A bit pricey though, but worth it in my opinion.

For the price you can't beat them. If all you're going to be doing is starting the truck and driving it (probably 90% of users) go with the everstart. I've had them in cars, trucks, boats, you name it. Never failed me.

If you are going to need super high current or lots of reserve then yeah spend the money for optimas.

my trucks original AC Delcos are still kicking after 4 years and 139,000 miles. When they go I will get Some Optima Yellow Tops

When my stockers go I will be putting in Orbitals. I like these cause there is no corrosion that develops on the connections which is important especially with sideposts.

I wish I could remember where I read the review, but Autozone Duralast were the top rated batteries in the test, and all the major brands were tested. If I remember correctly, the Wally World batteries were pretty high up there too. The Napa batteries tested were crap, but I have had good luck with them in the past.

Exide Maxxima 900 (also known as orbital/spiral cell)

10 years old, still putting out between 885 and 915 CCA - TESTED ! ! !

Had to test if one/two batts fails or alternator fails - the alternator was the cause, but the batts are still great after this time.

Here in germany 150 € each.

Nothin' is for free in germany (europe). Don't forget the shipping costs, tax, and custom fees are included. In germany we got only low 19% tax ! :(:(:(

Hey Big, I'm no expert, but everything I've read here suggests replacing BOTH batteries at the same time. Sorry...

Yes. If one battery is bad it will drain the new one and shorten its life.

For years I have been using Diehards with no problems. One car had same diehard battery for 11 years, other car has diehard gold for 7 years, so on.... However, when my truck batteries need replacements, I may try something different this time.

I plan on going with the yellow top optima, apparently deaper cycle than the red top and perfect for diesels.

I still have the 2-year old OEM AC Delco batteries in my truck and so far, I haven't had any problems.

But in the past, I've had excellent luck with DieHard batteries. The new DieHard Platinum looks to be quite powerful, but it's kind of pricey.

Optima batteries seem to be used by a lot of posters to this thread. Where do you get them? Are they a store brand, or a special-order item? My original batteries are only 2-1/2 years old, but from my experience with OEM batteries, they will last me five years and one month (our desert eats batteries for breakfast, and tires for lunch).

Thanks,

Joseph

what are the advantages/disadvantages of using a yellow top over a red top??? doesn't it just take longer to drain out?

Have been driving new GM vehicles since 1984,some for 6 yrs. and have never had a OEM battery go bad.Guess I am just a bit lucky there!
