I was reading in the Truck Trend magazine I got and it says that Shell and Toyota are researching "earth friendly diesel". Testing it in England and using it in Toyota diesels and calling it GTL. It's an odorless fuel that greatly reduces emissions and is also biodegradable.

Biodiesel isn't usually odorless.

Compared to petrol diesel it is.

Depends on the source. Some I have been around actually smelled more strongly, but more pleasant, than dino diesel. This is particularly true of biodiesel made from waste oil, but also holds for that made from virgin oils. Many unused oils have a very strong smell if they haven't been deodorized, which most, if not all, of the oils we use as consumers are.

Have you run it in your truck? Howd it run?

I cannot wait until the new year to pick up some cheap (ER) BD.....

I have only run a couple tanks of B20, as there isn't much commercial availability of it here in okie land (maybe has something to do with the oil well out behind my house). I fill with B20 when I am at my family's house in Iowa. There is no difference in performance that I can ascertain. I am moving to Manhattan, KS next week so I hope there is more availability of it up there. I know the coop has it, but the only retail outlet I have seen so far only has B2-why waste my time?

I saw this in the Nov/Dec issue of Truck Trend. Just a little clip but nice info.

I have burned B20 here in Oregon for the last 15K miles. Good stuff. The exhaust emits a smell somewhere between a deep fat fryer and popcorn. Pacific Pride here in Oregon has started carrying it at several card lock locations ...is good quality stuff. Zero problems with it since I've started using it and engine seems to run smoother/quieter and no noticable difference in power or mileage. It's about 20 cents more a gallon then #2.

They're making this fuel from natural gas. Saw this article from the summer on the Green Car Congress website.

GCC has some interesting stuff. I wonder what "boutique fuels" and biodiesel blends will end up on the market after ULSD gets here...

I'm glad their coming out with all this new technology for the diesel fuels. Diesels were produced to be more efficient weren't they?
