I didn't remove mine, I just left it in its original position. Carefully lifted the wires up and plugged into new one on homemade heatsink. I added a new resistor when I plugged in my new one. Worked great on mine. Hope this helps.

Yes, the fried PMD can be left "as is" on the side of the pump, but if you want the resistor inside, you will have to pull it out.
To do so, there's no other way than removing the PMD, and for that, you will have to take out the all intake to access the lower inside screw. A real PITA, not worth the time and the money. Buy a resistor, that will be a well spent money considering all time and pain this will save you.

I have the same problem right now and the Stanadyne dealer told me yesterday "those things are really expensive they're between $15 and $20". Tha beats pulling the intake. I may try to fish it out with a paper clip before I actually go get the new one but i'm not optimistic that I can get it I could barely get a small mirror in there to see that it was there.

Look on Stanadynes web site and click on your state,,,HERE:

for a Pump rebuiler in your area,,,, real easy to do,,,, and they can sell you a resistor,,, Cheaper than most, and you also get to meet some good guys that you would otherwise not want to be meeting!!!
