: PPE or EFiLive???

So confoused?? Still relatively new but doing my research. I like how the EfiLive is infinatly tunable but PPE seems to get rave reviews. So PPE guys and EFiLive guys tell what to get... I have an 05 EC/SB, stock, 39,000 miles. Either tuner will be accompanied with a full exhaust and proabably a lift pump and other items. Ohh and the trans. will be stock for a while, other than the mag-hytec pan that is on there.

Few other things... Does anybody know about these items...???...

Is this a waste or a good addition? I see a lot of guys use a finger stick?? To adjust boost and it seems like the EGR block-off plate is always mentioned with that. do all of these items work in the same category??

Is this a must to add when adding a lift pump?? I know that like with any other plumbing your fuel systems is only as big as your smallest diameter line...

All help is appreciated, Thanks.

i wouldn't worry about a lift pump until you get the tranny upgraded, as you won't be able to use all that power with a stock tranny for long..

I'm guessing your looking at the 350 hp tune..?

No. Nothing crazy. I think the 350hp tune would be overkill. Something like 100hp is fine, don't want to murder MPG. I was under the assumption that a good tune, 4" exhaust and a lift pump made for a good power package. Obviously the trans. is the best upgade you can make, but ranging from $4g-$6g, that will have to wait.

Looking for advice. If you guys were to start for scratch again, where would you spend your first $2g???

Thanks

Hammer 4... Tell me more about that custom CAI?? I read about the Kennedy airbox mod on his website... ABS intake tubes?? Works good?? It seems that most people say that CAIs are a waste. That they don't do too much and that the stock filter will filter better than any aftermarket filter.

What kind of lock have you had with yours? Looks nice.

No need for a lift pump if your stayin around 100 hp. Also, upping the hp won't hurt the mpg's, it will help, and in some cases the more hp, the better the mpg's..:D

In the tranny dept. I would do a SCIII, will work even if your excced 100hp. I would take the lift pump $$$ and get a set of gauges, i.e. boost, and Pyro to help momitor your motor.

If you have a 05, I think yours is a tad different than my 03, although you can still do the airbox mod. As for my CIA,one of our club members used 4" abs on his dmax, I had already done the airbox mod, so I spent $60.00 and pieced together a "custom" cia..can't feel any difference in power, nor did I see any increase in mpg's, it does flow more air, that's for sure, and I saved 260.00 :D

Another thing you may consider, mods that help keep your motor running Good, like a oil bypass kit from Amsoil, or other makers. Also a bypass fuel filter kit, such as the Nictane one, these imho are well worth the $$$ they cost.

Mods in general, are a personal thang..i'd do the simplest mods, get to know your truck, do Alot of reading here...then make a descision..

Leader. I have a LLY just like you do if Im correct. I just got my PPE tuner last week. I ordered the Hot+2 E.T which comes with all 10 levels they have up to 350hp. I am not using the big tunes now because I still have a stock trans but I will be using them for pulling next season. I give PPE two thumbs up in everyway possible. Customer support, product quality, the way the tunes run....you name it, its good stuff. I was stuck in the same situation you are in right now. I decided to go with PPE because they are very reputable and their big tunes have no problem with keeping up with a stock motor on efi. If you bought the programmer with all 10 tunes that doesnt mean you have to run big tunes. I am on a 90 horse tune now and gained over 2mpg! I was totally amazed!!! Ecspecially with the winter time here. Hope that helps you out a little, PPE is just easy to use, and a very powerful tool! CHRIS :)

Hammer 4. You said in the tranny dept. you would do an SC III, what exactly is that? Also, do you have any pics with the black H2s on your truck?

Heavy HD. I read in another post that you had good results from the PPE. How fast of a tune can you actually use with your otherwise mostly stock truck? Also, what do you call that style of mirror on your truck? Your truck is an 05, right? So did you put those mirrors on yourself? Details of the install??

Like Heavy HD said. The PPE stuff is great it the ridiculous tunes dept. But at $1200 for the plus 2 ET, you have to live with those ten tunes. On the otherhand EfiLive is infinately tunable. Do either scan and clear diagnostic codes? Remove top speed limiter? And can you save stock tune with either tuner?

Your decision comes down to personal choice. Many people love their PPE because it's plug and play and requires a minimal time investment. Many people love their EFILive because they can make an indefinate number of changes and number of tunes and have the time to invest in custom tuning and going the DIY route.

In addition, EFILive allows you to tune any 2 supported vehicle right out of the box. You can tune additional vehicles for $99 (up to 221 vehicles per FlashScan V2 hardware), so if you've got multiple vehicles to tune the cost effectiveness of a single purchase becomes very attractive. Our supported vehicles list is in my sig.

Cheers
Cindy

Hammer 4.

Wheels look good. Planning on getting a set and painting them all black. Any fitment issues with the stock ride height?

A lot of prep work go into painting them?
