I know this is sort of off-topic, but since the truck has the heavy diesel engine I figured others have needed to work on the suspension. My truck feels a little 'loose' when slowly going over railroad tracks or other sharp bumps, particularly on the left side. What is suspect? I usually think lower balljoints, but my buddy with a '96 'Burban k2500 7.4 says he seems to need to replace the UPPER joints more often than not. Thanks!

Uppers have been a problem on mine. To check I jack up one wheel and put one hand at 12:00 o'clock one hand at 6:00 o'clock and try to rock the tire to detect movement. It can also be rocked with a small steel bar angularly to the ground.
The good thing is the are relatively easy to change, originals riveted in, replacements bolt in... generally if they are bolted in, they have been changed at least once.

I would say upper control arm bushings. Ball joints make the tires wobble at ~40 and 65 mph.

Check the bearing and hub assy. Bad bearing on these is like a loose wheel bearing on the older style.

Napa quoted me $240 for the bearing centersection for the front hub.

I thought the wheel bearings on the drivers side of my '95 were gone however upon dis-assembly I found the Axle nut to be quite loose. Torque specs call for 180 ft lbs on a 95. I torque it and has been good ever since. ( 3 weeks ago)
