: Bigger tires for the stock wheels
dirtavg 11-26-2007, 07:54 AM I am looking at putting some bigger and more aggressive tires on the OEM wheels. I dont really know what is the biggest size that i can go without rubbing inside the fender well or sticking out past the fenders. Does anybody have any idea of what size tire would work for me?

madmatt 11-26-2007, 11:17 AM I went w/ a 285/75 Dick Cepek FCII and loved the hell out of them.
NCMIC 11-26-2007, 02:12 PM 265/75/16 will not rub. 285/75/16 will rub on the driver side when turning sharp, unless you crank your torsion bars.
Dmax Tim 11-27-2007, 06:30 AM guys, he has a dually.
some have had luck w/ 235/85-16 rear and a 265/75-16 on the front. have to watch that the rears don't touch and that the brand you go with the front and rear are same OD.

DOH!!!!!!!!!!!!
dirtavg 11-27-2007, 02:45 PM Thanks, do the duallies sit lower in the front?
Dmax Tim 11-27-2007, 03:10 PM not really.
dirtavg 11-27-2007, 03:44 PM So going with 235/85-16 rear and a 265/75-16 on the front i will not have any problems with clearence.
dirtavg 11-27-2007, 03:51 PM Hay, Dmax Tim what do you think about the Firestone MT tires?
I am going to use them for every day driving but i take trips up into the U P and am on the highway for 6-10 hours depending how bad the roads are.
How noisy are thet?

the only problem would be tire to tire on the rear end, may have to use a spacer to keep tires from rubbing loaded.

my first miles was to work today, not noisy, can't even hear them over the 5" exhaust. some of the sound is the studs too. from all the reviews I've seen they do good on mileage. I'm going to see how they do for winter tires and if they look good I'm going to replace my BFG AT summer tires w/ them.
dirtavg 11-28-2007, 11:12 AM I really like how they look compared to the bfg A/T
Do you think that i could put 265/75-16 on all 6?
Would that help with the duallys rubbing.

nope make it a lot worse, the 235 tire is 30mm or 1 3/16" narrower than the 265. so maybe w/ 2" spacers. some guys are able to run 235/85 w/o rub and others have rub, depends on the tires/ air pressure/ load.
I'm hoping some dually guys would jump in and help you out more.
dirtavg 11-28-2007, 03:52 PM Well thanks, i think that i am going to go with the Firestones M/T.
I will keep you updated with the outcome.
Duromax04 11-30-2007, 01:30 AM If you drive on pavement most of the time, a Mud tire would not be a good choice for long wear. An all terrain would give you more service life. If you are going to be in the mud alot, then I could see the MT tires.
Also, I would not recommend putting two different size tires on your truck. YOu will just limit your rotation possibilities when you do that. Those two sizes are very close to the same OD, so that is not an issue, but you will not be able to put the fronts on the back in a normal rotation schedule. You will get more even wear and better mileage out of all six tires if you rotate. 235's are really the biggest tire you could put on stock wheels, and even those are really almost to big.
dirtavg 11-30-2007, 05:05 PM I am just going to use the tires in the winter and in the summer i am going to put some 22.5 on the truck.
I know that the tire life will not be what the A/T will but the biggest thing that i am worried about is the road noise.
I hate when you can hear the tires over you when you are talking. You know what i mean?
