: Miles out of Cooper ST's with a diesel
Cougar GT-E 11-26-2007, 12:46 AM Hi,
I found a place that has some 255/85r16 cooper ST's for cheap. How do they wear when run on a heavy single axle diesel? I've never run cooper ST's before and I can't afford to replace them in 25k miles like the Junkyears on the truck now.
Thanks!
capflya 11-26-2007, 01:15 AM I don't have any experience with the S/T but I've had two sets of discoverer H/T on the old truck, and I just purchased a set of discoverer ATR's for the new LMM. both sets of H/T's I got 60k + out of and we'll have to see about the new ATR's but I trust cooper tires. I would say get the ATR's but you probably need a more aggressive tread in the WI winter eh? Hope this helps.

Chase2000gt 11-26-2007, 02:32 AM I got 25k out of my cooper stt's
Cougar GT-E 11-26-2007, 10:28 AM 25k ! Not good, can't afford to put rubber on every 12 months.
Anyone else have ST experience?

Vin63 11-26-2007, 10:44 AM I was able to get right at 60K miles out of a set of six Cooper Discoverer STs on my '95 dually (from May '98 to Dec. '03 when I sold it with the those Coopers on it). 60 percent of those miles were pulling my race car trailer.
06Dmaxpwr 11-26-2007, 10:50 AM I got 15k outta my Cooper ST's...............and A TON OF BURNOUTS TOO. I also have another stocker Dmax with the same ST's and i got 35k out of them.
Mine must have been a bad rubber batch.........;)

Busdriver75 11-26-2007, 02:20 PM i'm getting new tires this week, mastercraft courser ct's. they're made by cooper and are identical to the st's. i'm glad somebody got 35K out of their st's, makes me feel a little better about the tire.
i was quoted right at like $160 a tire mounted and balanced by my local shop for the CT's.
jdugie123 11-26-2007, 02:55 PM i was able to get 42k out of a set of 35" STTs so i can't see why you can't get atleast that out of the STs. The key to good wear is rotating and keeping them balanced
Kessler Farms 11-27-2007, 10:58 AM I currently have 20,000 miles on my Cooper STs, with hardly any wear noticeable. I also rotate every 5000 miles. They are quite aggressive for an all-terrain tire. Love 'em.
01Duramax6spd 11-27-2007, 11:36 AM S/T's seem to be a good tire but I got a bad set and had two get buldges on them in less than 5K. I still have 2 on with 12K or so on them and they are getting low on tread. I'm not afraid to use excess power though :D.
I was told they should run around 60K before I bought them.
I'm going back to STT's.
06Dmaxpwr 11-27-2007, 12:26 PM Did anyone else have a problem with the CT's shaking when you put them on. Everything was balanced, alligned, etc and when you drive down the road, it felt like you were hitting 1000 spike strips. Rode like hell all the time. I got 3 sets for a couple of different trucks. 1 gasser and 2 diesels and the gasser didnt shake and the two diesels shook like mad. We switched over one set on the diesel to BFG at's and the shake went away. Threw the ones that shook on the gasser and it also went away. WTF is that, the tire dealer said they couldnt do anything about it because I already put 1k on the tires so they could only exchange one. Just a heads up though.....not to scare you away or anything
Busdriver75 11-27-2007, 06:26 PM how long ago did that happen, the shaking tires i mean? i've never had them before, but these tires guys are great to work with, so hopefully nothing happens.
i'll let you know toward the end of the week when i get mine put on.

I'm making sure they still have some. Last I was told they had 12 in stock and I could get them for 132 + shipping.
I'll let you know what the scoop is after I know.

femritet 11-28-2007, 12:33 AM I got 43,500 out of my 285 discoverer S/T's with a fair amount of burnouts on them. On my second set and love them.
