: DRL Disabled
dtruslow 11-25-2007, 07:21 PM Gentleman,
I am a new owner of a 2002 2500hd, and the previous owner seems to have disabled the DRL's and somehow has the truck wired to turn on the headlights fully(taillights etc..)when the engine is started, which kind of renders the headlight switch unneccessary to operate at all, day or night.
Has anyone else done this? Is there no repercussions on the lighting system like this? How do I get it back to it's original configuration if I want to? HELP.
Signed,
Not an electrician.

lovette 11-25-2007, 07:35 PM Hopefully not a stupid question, but have you checked to see if the DRL's are on when the truck is in gear, like at a storefront window? They aren't on in Park. If not, both bulbs may be blown.
re: headlights Is yours a Canadian truck?
dtruslow 11-25-2007, 07:44 PM That is a good question!! (stupid is as stupid does) I will check, however, when the engine is running and I turn the switch to the park and then headlight mode, all lights remain the same. Are you telling me that it needs to be in gear for a change is made to the light config?

lovette 11-25-2007, 08:19 PM No, just that the DRL's only come on in gear.
mbradford 11-25-2007, 08:20 PM I have the same problem with my 2002 Sierra. The headlights are always on regardless of the switch position. I also have seen a lot of Chevrolet/GMC trucks with at least 1 of 2 DRL's out. I spoke to one guy who told me he changed his DRL's out to a step down (he said they run cooler). haven't tried it yet. I just go without the DRL's.
shortcircut65 11-25-2007, 10:27 PM hit the dome override button four times, and they should go off. if they do, i would have the sunlight sensor checked out, it may be bad, and have your lights staying in the on position. when the sensor has the lights on, the only way you can change it is to hit the dome override 4 times(that disables all lights, even DRL's), then put to parking lights, or full lights. when the parking or headlights are on, the DRL's go off. im not sure how one goes about checking the sensor, so good luck with that. i would assume that taking the dash apart would be included. good luck, keep us posted

shortcircut65 11-25-2007, 10:46 PM good to know, thanks

Unit453 11-25-2007, 10:50 PM If the light sensor fails, your lights are on all the time. We have a bunch of fleet Tahoes and most, the sensors are either broken or have failed and the lights are on constantly. When the sensor fails, the BCM thinks its dark out all the time. I dont think it was anything the previous owner did as with all electronics, parts can fail.

Thats what I was thinking. On my 02 the lights were on all the time for about a week until I relized my cap was up on the dash covering the senser, made me feel dumb cause my buddy is the one that pointed that out.
