I plugged my 01 dmax in for the first time this year, and it is not working.
My question is how easy is it to install and what can I expect to pay for a replacement.

most likely it's the cord that's at fault, not the heater itself. Do a resistance check on the cord (easy to do with an ohm-meter). Very easy to replace the cord, it just plugs into the heater element on the side of the block.

Not to be sarcastic or anything but, what was your indication that the block heater did not work?

When the heater fails like Bogie said it's most likely the cord, mine failed also. You will know it isn't working because after you have it plugged in you gain no benefit of a faster smoother start and quiet idle ,not to mention faster heat!

Mine quit as well.............cord was loose at the block.............

Pushed it back on and working fine.

Call me stupid, but I looked for my cord the other day and couldn't find it. The book says by the right side motor mount but I can't find anything. Anybody point me in the right direction or have a pic they can post?

Perfect! I was looking for a reel of some sort like the old under-hood lights. Thanks for confirming my ignorance and blindness!
