There are Chips that raise fuel rail pressure but a simple plug and play like the Edge Juice which changes injector pulse coupled with a low boost fuel setting will smoke decently.

The fuel Rail pressure chips weren't big sellers and were the first style that hit the market when the Duramax was introduced. They ended up with a bad rap as they caused some leaks do to faulty rail pressure sensors in 01's.

you might have a problem with your tranny if its stock. you might be slipping and the juice is picking it up and backing the power off. it might be, but theres all kinds of things that could be wrong too.

With a Tech II or equivalent.I doubt that your transmission is the culprit.
Ambient temps can cause less smoke as colder air is denser.

If your transmission was that smoked (no load) you would have other symptoms, limp mode comes to mind!
