: Final verdict on the SUPERtank
problemchild 12-14-2004, 06:10 PM Well now that I got a good nights sleep and my back isnt so sore I will make this post.
Bottom line is it was a ***** to install by myself. It took me 20 hours.
So here are the facts.
Its BIG.
Its HUGE.
Its hangs down like the transfer flow.
Its 66 gallons on a standard bed (HUGE).
Its in and working.
The price was right.
But I would have had someone install it if I knew how hard it was (for me anyway)
Now all that being said.....
Aros, doug, landry took my calls sat night, sun night and overnighted a bracket ( they shorted me).
They offered to have a chevy dealer install and pay for it.
They have great customer service!!!!!!!
It was a pleasure working with them.
They did tell me the new style tank is much better then this old style. Live and learn I guess.
A deal is something that no one else wanted.
dmaxalliTech 12-14-2004, 06:12 PM OK, who are you and what did you do with PC??????
Sounds like a nice set up, I have looked at being a dealer for Supertanks and have all the info just need to send it back.. Good customer service like this helps me decision too
Max Owner 12-15-2004, 12:03 AM Eric; I hope you become a dealer. Hoping to get one, down the road.
And for all you guys who give Mike a hard time......phooey.
butzkeg 12-15-2004, 01:37 PM Keep me in your thoughts and prayers while I install mine this weekend.
SaguaroKid 12-15-2004, 01:57 PM Congratulations!! You stuck with it man!! Have you considered becoming a dealer and installing them as a part time buz?
Duramax Dually 12-15-2004, 02:21 PM PC,
What is the price compared to TFI's Midship tank?
I was going to install my TFI but when TFI said "Come on up and we will install it for $150 bucks" I was where do I SIGN UP!. I even negotiated the install of the Nicktane kit at no extra charge. I asked "While the tank is out, can you run the lines?" I mounted everything in the kit, they ran the lines and even did the nice fittings and did not use the parker barbs that came with the kit.
You will love having a driving range of 800+ miles on a tank full......
flivver 12-15-2004, 03:16 PM Keep me in your thoughts and prayers while I install mine this weekend.
Well Butzkeg, keep us posted. I am going to attempt this in a couple of weeks.

BigdaddyG 12-15-2004, 09:15 PM Hey PC, How much did they chrage you for the tank? I am thinking about asking for one for Christmas and didn't you say they were on sale? Drop me a note please!!
SpoolinTurbo 12-15-2004, 11:27 PM That combined with the 100+ transfer tank I intend on installing would be SWEET.. No more paying canadian fuel prices on visits to the lower 48!

killerbee 12-17-2004, 06:57 PM Damn, you'd think GM would be seeing this, the upgrade option would be $175, and we wouldn't have to lay on our frickin backs.
UncleFester 12-19-2004, 10:57 PM Sounds like an add on i'd like to have. Too bad I already chewed up that additional space with the Nathan Airchimes... can't give them up yet.
butzkeg 12-20-2004, 10:37 AM Just finished mine this weekend. Took me 7 1/2 hours, but I also had the new style tank so I didn't mess with the fuel cooler. Way too much work. Think I'll leave the extent of my mechanicing to oil changes.

The Original Diesel 12-20-2004, 01:19 PM ProblemChild, glad to hear you got it done!
Did you wind up using the holley pickup in the tank? Also once you have had some time to run a few tanks through I would like to know what your actual useable capacity winds up being?? I am very close to buying one of these but I would like to hear from a few users before I jump in. I still have that bad tase in my mouth from my last Transfer Flow Tank  ............
Butzkeg, what is the stated capacity of your "new style" tank. Also could you let me know in a few weeks how you feel about your supertank and what it's useable capacity winds up being.
Thanks in advance guys............

fredw 12-20-2004, 03:54 PM sure seams like a lot of work for just another 30 gallons:( , i would just go with a L tank(90g) in the box, tie straight in to the main fuel tank and let it sifion in,also the tank has another bung if you ever wanted to fill externally maybe a one hour install, and can be removed in ten minutes, no cutting parts off the frame, and then you can install a hidden tool box above it, o ya thats what i have):h

The setup you are describing in illegal here in OK. I know alot of people do it but it is not for me. In addition, I need all the bed space I can get..............
Max Owner 12-20-2004, 06:51 PM I'm still curious about the tank getting low and sloshing around, sucking air in on a hill.....

Fred,
That's more than the stock short bed tank holds! I traded a 99 Surburban that came with a 42 gallon tank stock. Was nice to drive 2-3 weeks before needing to fill up. Of course, fillup was sticker shock. I even bought a locking gas cap after realizing I had $80-100 of fuel in the tank. I will be installing a Supertank this weekend and am looking forward to the long hauls afterward. I miss that Suburban tank . . .
butzkeg 12-21-2004, 09:17 AM So I guess helping me with mine this weekend is definitly out of the question? Can you throw me any hints/suggestions?
Only out of the question because you are in CA.;) Remember, I had the new style that didn't mod the fuel cooler. But, here's the points I had trouble with: 1. Removing old tank wasn't easy, ended up having to drop the tank a bit to get everything disconnected. My 8 year old saved me by disconnecting the electrical connection because he could get up there and see it. Have as little fuel as possible in there prior to removal. 2. Be sure to move all wires out of the way right above where the tank goes, the directions were serious when they said this. Just zip tie them out of the way. 3. Definitely remember this one, the fill nozzle/fitting makes the tank just wide enought to not fit easily up into the space, it catches on the frame. I had to rotate the tank a bit so the nozzle went over the frame, then had to force the other side of the tank past the bracket on the other side of the tank. I wasted 2-3 hours on this. 4. Remember to use the t-brackets when trying to hang the tank, I didn't see that in the directions and it was dis-heartening to see how much higher the tank needed to go but wouldn't...then I realized I had those t-brackets that should probably be there. 5. Final things are the hoses. I connected the 1" hose to the top of the tank prior to mounting, didn't notice that in the directions either, and it didn't ause me problems. The directions do state to "cut 2 5/8" off the 2" vent-tube", well there is no 2" vent tube. Called Supertanks, and it's the 2" fill-tube. The tech told me to only cut a little at a time, as it may not need to be all 2 5/8". I looked at it, and went with about 1 1/2" off and it was fine. Then the new fast-fill vent hose was a bit short. I had to splice a little extra hose in to make it fit easily.
Good luck, let me know if anything doesn't make sense.

Stated capacity is 57 gallons, so far so good. Going on vacation next week, so won't be able to reply until mid January about usuable. I won't drive enough miles this week with time off from work to use my first tank-full. From what I got from the Supertanks guys is the usable amount of fuel is stated about 2 gallons lower than actual. I would call them to be certain for your application. They are very helpful for sure, talk to Aros. I'm not sure if my usuable or actual is 57. There is at least 53 usuable IMHO. I'll chime in after testing more, but like I said it will be a while.

Thank for the reply and I will look forward to hearing your findings!
If you are going on a trip be careful until you get accustomed to how your tank works. I highly doubt the 2 gal statement unless they are devaluing the gross capacity by a few gals. I doubt 2 gals would cover the entire surface area of the tank bottom or to a level that would be effective. Also I would not recomend parking on an incline or decline for any period of time with less than a 1/3 of a tank. I learned this the hard way with my Transferflow.
I know when I got my transfer flow 42 on my last truck I ran it out of Diesel half a dozen times before I got used to it Censored . I am hoping the Supertank will be different but I would be careful none the less. To be safe my average fill up point on my LB7 with the transferflow was 400-425 miles . Not what I was expecting when I shelled out the cash.....................
On the transfer flow when my low fuel light came on there had better be a station in sight with no stops or turns in between or I was dead. Even on the times I ran the thing out of Diesel I could only put 35 gals back in the tank! The transfer flow needed around 8 gals to keep from sucking air and at 10 gals you had to be very careful with starts, stops, and turns to keep it from sloshing and sucking air. The transferflow was baffled too  .
I am hoping the design of the Supertanks is somehow different to prevent these problems. I know the stock 26 gal tank is driving me crazy, I fill up 2-3 times a week. Even if the supertank winds up needing 10 gal to opperate without sucking air I will still gain almost 20 gals over factory. I think I could live with this.............
flivver 12-21-2004, 11:46 AM Thanks for the tips Butz! I have the newer style as well.

Thanks, I usually don't run too low while pulling my trailer, but especially with the fam onboard. Would feel like a horrible father/husband if I left them stranded. Although they could go kick back in the RV I suppose.
This tank should have 15 more gallons than the transferflow, which helps ALOT. I was down fairly low after I installed. Guesstimated about 11 gallons in the tank, drove it hard to show some friends the new power I had installed b4 the tank. Got to my destination, was on a slight incline and got the low fuel light. Went right to the fuel station about 7 miles away, put in 14.5 gallons. Drove 60 miles the next day, added 35.5 gallons (it was on about 1/4 a tank). Easily could have burned 5 gallons in driving, and added 61 gallons total, so the math adds up. Just don't know what's usable. Was probably down to 8 gallons at a point, just was getting nervous, but had no probs.
I hear you on the fillups. I do the 2-3 times a week, may be able to push to every other week dependand on usability. Every 10 days wouldn't be bad though. I'll definitely let you know.
sander 12-21-2004, 05:23 PM I am looking fora "in bed tank" but it needs to be installed.
I read somewhere that the tank to problemchild was shipped in 2 days from florida!
Where in Florida and can somebody tell who sells them.
I am in Palm Beach county but I do not mind driving (that's why I need that tank:) )
thanks for any info on this!
