: 03' blown head gasket?? or is it??
Boost-hard 11-24-2007, 04:49 PM I have an 03' Duramax. i just had the injectors replaced 3 weeks ago at the dealer. it was smokeing white/grey smoke but not all the time. Only when i would run the truck for a while then shut it down. Then after a few minutes i'd fire it back up and a good amount of smoke would blow out for about 30 sec. then clear up. The crankcase was over full and had to add coolent every week.? They replaced all 8 injectors and changed the oil. ran great for 3 weeks, no smoke, no coolent loss, then out of the blue I had the same problems, just took it back in and they said it's now hydro locked? Therefore the headgasket is blown.??
My Questions, Are they trieng to hide that they dident get the injector cups seated properly?
If it hydro locked at there shop, is it my fault??? Any sudgestions??
Are they still suposed to take a sample of the oil when they change injectors? if so dont ya think they would have told me there was coolent in the oil if it was indeed the headgasket??
Thanks, Brandt
stroke250 11-25-2007, 10:28 AM it could be injector cup related
Boost-hard 11-25-2007, 10:52 PM Thats what im hoping?? Just wondering if i should have them inspect the injector cups or another dealer?
stroke250 11-26-2007, 02:19 PM ideally i would find a different dealer, but first you need to see what that dealer is wanting to do about it. i would get ahold of Eric @ Merchant Automotive and get his insight on your engine issue. his phone number is on his website www.gmdieseltech.com
hope this helps
Boost-hard 11-27-2007, 09:49 PM ok will do, thanks again for your help.
Dustdevil 11-28-2007, 01:55 AM My 03 had an injector problem that first showed up as stench from the exhaust. It was running rough and smoking as well, so we took it in. The dealer either tried to change out only one injector, or they screwed up the installation, or both. They won't go into detail. One injector evidently blew so much liquid fuel into the cylinder that it hydraulicked and bent two valves. It began really running horrible, so we had it towed back to the dealer. They had to take off one head, check deck height on the piston to make sure the con rod wasn't bent, then replace the valves and the head gasket. They replaced all 8 injectors (again?), and it never quite ran the same after that. That is, until 20k miles later, when injectors went out again. Took it to another dealer who has more experience with diesels, and they replaced with new 2nd generation injectors. Truck runs like it was new. Smooth, quiet, and no smoke.
Bottom line is that if they don't get things set up right the first time, the actions of the dealer can led to severe engine damage.

.
I didn't think that there were any differences with injectors, original and replacement. Is there now an available 2nd gen injector?

Dustdevil 11-28-2007, 06:29 PM I was told the original injectors were marginal, at best, considering the pressure of the system, the lack of lubrication in ULSD fuel, and their susceptibility to the dirt that seems to always be present in diesel. The first round of replacements for the first few years were merely rebuilt versions of the above. I was told by the new dealer that the current injectors being used for replacements are brand new, and are more like the current injectors being built into new vehicles, which are designed for the pressure, lack of lubrication in the fuel, and more tolerant to abrasion of the sealing surfaces.
Boost-hard 11-28-2007, 09:59 PM Well i had the dealer tear it down to the injectors so they could check there work. It turns out they messed up.:D #6 injector cup was loose and the cause of the leak. They are gonna flip the bill for all the work.
Thanks again for all your help, I probably would have spent the 5 grand to fix the heads if it wasent for you guys.
HoldemDawg 11-28-2007, 10:15 PM Dam man, which dealer in Denver?
