Am I off or does $175.00 seem a bit high to get the pigtail and block heater wired from my dealer? How hard can it be? I know some of you have probably done this yourself and would like to ask for directions on this project. Can you do it yourself?
One other thing, is $11.00 standard price for the mopar oil filters?

Mine cost me about 40 bucks took about 1 minute to install. there is a threaded cap on the side of your block on the pasenger side. remove the plastic cap and thread in your heater cord. along the frame there are holes to push in the little plastic wire holders.
Pretty simple

YES THATS HIGH. I don't know how mechanical you are but you'll probly do a better job doing it yourself. The Heat thrown from the block is the biggest culprit . If you route the power cord correctly ,it'll last longer.
Also checkout www.zerostart.com for Block Heater Parts.
I Put a cord on my Western Star with a 475CAT that has 2 LED lights showing if the element is working. Real Handy and no surprises on a Cold morning.........Good luck
The option when buying the truck is $10

I thought they were nuts!!! I am very mechanically inclined, have been working on vehicles for over twenty years. Just none of them Diesels. I already have the block heater, the price they quoted was for the pigtail and the "wiring it up so it would work"
Do I have to buy the cord from these idiots or can it be had elsewhere?

I just bought mine last week for $42 with tax. I'm like everyone else, I thought they should provide it. The parts guy at my dealer said he heard that they initially weren't available to Dodge when the trucks were coming off the production line so they left them off. If that is true, I guess they figured out pretty quickly that they could make more money selling them separately. You can probably find a connector to match your heater at an electrical supply store. They aren't fancy. A little rubber plug with two prongs on the block, female on the plug and a ground tab that contacts the threads. I just figured it wasn't worth my time calling and driving looking for something that would work and bought it from the dealer.
Wiring it up so it will work is unscrewing the blind cap, plugging yours in and hand tightening the retainer ring. You might consider switching dealers if you are getting that kind of BS from them already. I sure wouldn't want to see their price tag for something serious.

Bought my cord yesterday from local diesel garage. It was $14 and an aftermarket cord. Priced at Dodge for $40. I'm in electronics industry and can tell you we buy similar cords like this for about 90 cents.
Easy to do but I had to remove the air cleaner to turbo pipe to get decent access to the block plug. There were no wiring harness attachment points on my truck so I zip tied the cord to the frame rail and routed out by the front bumper where the optional right (for me) fog lamps are supposed to be. Also used a little light duty Loctite for the threads on the cord to block connector. I'll try it out tonight.
