I've got a problem wich I think is related to the hydro boost in my -98 Gmc k1500 6,5L.

Sometimes the steering "slips" and it feels like it's getting stronger power steering (feels like my -84 c10 diesel use to do). Other times I loose almost all power to steering and power brakes and it's practically imposssible to turn the steering wheel.

My thoughts on this is that there might be a overflov valve or pressure valve that is intermittently? failing.

Does anybody know anything 'bout this. It's kind of hard to get any good advice in Sweden. Since there isn't that many people who have seen the light and drives pick-up trucks from the US, there is even fewer mechanics.
Might have somthing to do with the fuelprices ($4,75 a gal) .

Greetings from Sweden

Blue.

I have the same condition occasionally; hit the brakes, try to turn and power steering fades out. It isn't getting any worse, but it makes me shiver with thoughts of replacing that hydro boost symptom. Can they be rebuilt by a hydraulic shop for a reasonable price?

Have you checked the power steering pump or replaced it. All the hydro boost equipped trucks I have owned when ever there was a problem it was in the power steering pump area. Most of those were belt slippage but that was the old belt system, but it would not hurt to removed your belt and also check the tensioner pully assy. I have seen lots of them go bac and the keeps your belt tight.

Thanks for the replies!

I don't think it's a slipping belt. I've never heard any squeling from the belts.

Anybody know wher you could find partlists or microfiches of the power steering pump and so on?

I wasn't suggesting a slipping belt but that maybe you should look at the pump. If it was acting up it would be acting like a older model when the belt slipped thats all.
