What is the diff between the two? Are they same parts? Just lV is bolt in and lll is DIY?

The III is a kit that you install at your end. The IV is a complete exchange transmission consisting of all of the III components, plus a couple of minor in house mods that Suncoast does.

How long did it take the DIY guys out there to do the Suncoast III work in their own garage?

I have never gotten a straight answer from anyone what the "IN HOUSE" mods are for the Level III vs. the Level IV........

The Level III kit took me about 8 hours to install with help from Mackin and another bud........we took our time and double checked everything......:)

I hired a garage to R&R the tranny....best $340.00 I spent..........all I had to do was pick the tranny up after it was out and drop it off for re-installation........I showed up when they were ready to pull it off the lift and start the truck.........

The Level III is all you should need unless you just want to have the transmission R&R swapped with the Suncoasts tech's doing the rebuild on a core.....

Should be able to do the whole thing in a weekend. Just make sure you dont miscalculate and you can get the trans out from underneath the truck on the jack. I only say this becasue most people dont have a skidsteer with a pair of forks and a excavator to aid in thier R&R:eek: ):h :o

the innards of the allison are easy. do a search in the trany forum, there were a couple of guys that posted thier install experiences(I was one). any particular Q's ask away or shoot me or one of the other guys a PM.

I say a weekend as the thats the take your time approach, general do it yourselfer having to run to the parts store to get atf or what ever else you forgot, buddys getting into the free beer to early, ect

Mike and Eric can do it in under a 1/2 day I'm sure and thats with yahoo's like me calling em on the phone asking em to help me figure out what I f-ed up):h

The biggest difference is the warranty on the LIV. Joe does add some clutches on the LIV that are not part of the LIII kit, but really the biggest difference is the warranty. You get a two year unlimited mileage warranty with the LIV, first year is covered all but fluid and filter. Even r&r labor is covered. Second year, only the trans is covered, your resposible for labor, r&r fluid and freight.

Huge difference in cost on this as well, the SIII parts will put you in the 2200-2300 range with freight and the SIV with a triple disk converter will push you over the 4200 mark. Labor charges on a III still wont get you to a IV parts. Good estimate on total bill would be 3500 for the III installed and ~5k for the IV installed. Freight on the IV is about 300 bucks. Thats not included in the 4200.

So if the warranty sounds appealing, spend the extra bucks, if not, a III will hold most everything anybody will/has thrown at it

I strongly suggest tackling it yourself in your garage:rolleyes: . 3 ton jack, set of jackstands, misc hand tools, and cold beer is all you need. Of course I'm assuming you also enjoy driving hot pokers into your eyes, dipping your package into battery acid, and being beaten with frayed wire cables.):h -:t . What was I thinkingCensored

But then again, there is pride of having been able to Git Er Done :ro)

I asked Suncoast if they would do a Level IV to my new transmission if I brought it to them, they said they only do core swaps and you can't keep your old Allison. Is it worth giving up my clean and pristine Allison for a rebuilt (and potentially previously trashed) trans with the Level-IV or should I just go with the Level-III on my clean trans?

First off if you talk to Diesel Power he thrashed his truck for a year and 20K ++++ miles with a TTS Single disk and transgo with stock clutches......without any issues running the TTS Xtreme.

If you ask me the Level III kit with a Triple TC and booster valve for line pressure is all 99.9% of the people ever need.

The Level IV & V are complete units.....swapped out as a core only, unless you drive your truck to Suncoast for install........

Personally I went with the Level III for the $$$$$$ savings and I got to keep my core........

Call Mike L and talk with him or with dmaxallitech ( aka ERIC ), both will tell you pretty much the same thing.......

Good Luck,

I would give up a brand new stock tranny for a rebiult tranny from Suncoast anyday.

I laugh when I hear about people not wanting to end up with a 'previously abused' transmission.. Can you honestly tell my yours isnt? Suncoast goes through these things more thoroughly then you ever will in your garage when doing a III. I wouldnt be worried about a thing. If a stock core has so much value, then why do you want to take it out?

Well.

My opinion is if you have a low mileage trans that you feel good about, then have that trans done. I do not see Joe Webb having a problem doing that at all for you guys. There is no problem exchanging the trans with a Suncoast cause there sh!t works very well. My personal opine with a low mileage trans in my truck is " Please do mine, thank you very much":D
