: Jeep Liberty Diesel
wersqu 11-22-2007, 04:11 AM Does anyone know of a site like this one for the Jeep diesels? As this is our second vehicle and belongs to my wife I do not plan too many changes. It would be nice to find a site like this that gives you suggestions/instructions for things like increasing the air into the engine, exhaust options, etc. Obviously as a diesel I would expect most of the "improvements" here would transfer over. We have owned it for 2 years now with over 30,000 and it has not missed a beat. One recall to take some torque out of it. Seems like there must be a problem with them eating up the torque converter. Makes sense as Jeep is a Chrysler product and like my old Dodge it looks like the tranny is the weak spot. This is our daily runner and anything we can do to get more mpg's is always nice. Thanks.
blizzardplowman 11-22-2007, 08:01 AM Just a tad OT, what mileage are you getting with the Jeep. Daughter is heading to school next year and it's looking to be a 600 mile round trip.....

i've seen chips for them on fleabay. anywhere from 35-80 horse chips. might give that a whirl, but if you're already having tranny problems it might not be the best idea.
thefermanator 11-22-2007, 12:33 PM The tranny that is backing your CRD is the 45RFE which is the same tranny backing the HEMI's. It is an excellent tranny that is not in any way based off of the old DODGE design's(technology aquired from MERCEDES), but the diesel's low torque has proven to be it's downfall. They needed to update it some more for the diesel to work with it, but in classic CHRYSLER style they went ahead and used it. There are lot's of JEEP forums out there(go to google and type in JEEP FORUM), but I don't know of any dedicated JEEP DIESEL FORUM.
luke warm 11-22-2007, 09:13 PM try www.lostkjs.com
I almost bought one a year or so ago, but new it was too pricey...and I too was afraid of mopar reliability. Luke
torqueofthetown 11-23-2007, 02:34 PM LW's link is a great resource of information for the CRD libertys. I was really excited about getting a CRD, but once I saw all the issues with EGR's and trannys.... I was scared off.
gmctd 12-04-2007, 09:24 PM Ya oughtta ride in one that's been fixed..................

Four in a row makes it go
diesellady 12-06-2007, 09:43 AM Mine gets 29 mpg on the highway doing well into the 70 mph range. I have blocked the EGR and had my tranny done so no worries on that. Never let the dealer touch it once you have it cause they will mess with the power when the do the torque converter. I love it and will keep it around for a long time.
gmctd 12-06-2007, 11:56 AM Cool - if you have not, try the link in luke warm's post for further info - go to the CRD section.
Try it - you'll like it.....................

Oh, I'm sure I'd be hooked:HiHi: ....sounds like a cool ride
Also, Diesellady did blocking the EGR throw any codes? how did you go about blocking it?
gmctd 12-06-2007, 04:15 PM You had yours done at ATS, diesellady?
Rockin C Racing 12-06-2007, 07:01 PM Good luck with those. My experience with an 06 Liberty CRD was not good. Let's just say I bought it new, owned for 6 months and was in and out of the stealership for repairs 7 times and Chrysler would not take it back on Lemon Law because everytime they filled the work order out, they made it read just a little different each time so that it didn't look like the same problem every time.
Blk04HD 12-08-2007, 09:54 PM I hope the diesel is lighter than the gas motor because the gas powered liberty that my cousins wife had ate ball joints all the time, even lost the complete d/s wheel assembly once. They traded it off after that episode, what a pile.....
gmctd 12-09-2007, 12:40 PM The Diesel is heavier, by far - the bean-counters overrode the eng spec for the balljoints in the heavier vehicles, re-spec'ing the lite-duty 4-cyl versions - ain't no hill to install the originally spec'ed versions from MOOG, plus ya get grease-zerks - a Jeep is a terrible thing to waste, 'specially fer something as simple as lower ball joints, knowwhuttimean?
