i thought that i seen a pic of someone thats wired a light up to come on when you switch on your high idle, kinda like when you use your overdrive lockout? anyone know?

Wire a radio shack led in series with the switch........when activated with a simple on off switch the normally open side closes....wire the led with the hot side going to the ECM wire......

IIRC the ecm needs a 12v source to activate the circuit.

I used to have a light.I went with the no-switch option..much easier and cleaner..........plus you never forget to turn it off.

Wire the 12v feed from the connector under the steering column........the circuit only has power in park and when you hit the brake or remove from park the circuit de-energizes......no 12v

I think dmaxallitech can tell ya the wire or do a search......

I think it's dark green and white stripe..........it is part of a 6 wire harness connector.

I'll see if I can find it........

here it is ........

How does it work for trucks equipped with handshakers??? I would like to install the high idle without a switch!

Thanks,

I think you are asking for a light to be on when the truck is actually in high idle operation (RPM is elevated). The light everyone else is talking about indicates if high idle can be initiated or if it is disabled.

So, is there a pin one the ECM that goes high (or Low) only when elevated idle mode is in operation?

I would also like to Know if this would work with a "handshaker"

It works off the brake switch and the cruise control.......because you do not have a gear lever and have a handshaker I think you need the on/off switch.

Moss...you want a switch with an LED, the no-switch method eliminates the need for a switch because it is fool-proof.you cannot ever leave the circuit activated with the truck being driven.

Not real sure why you would need a light...if ya cant tell that the engine is running at a higher rpm already.....

But if you want to light it up, there isnt a safe way to install a light that is on with the high idle only becuase its internal to the pcm. The wire added always has power from the brake switch, but has to be activated with the cruise switch.

My High Idle switch has a blinking light built in.

Also before this, I just wired in a ground wire to a $2 Radio Shack SPST switch that illuminated the switch when it had power to it.
