: Is GM gonna match the Ford?

I wonder if the General http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/rockon.gif will do anything to match or exceed the new muchly-advertised Ford Tow Boss packagehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/Throwup.gif . It really only consists of an F-350 with all of the tow package goodies, but adds a 4.30 rear axle ratio to give the extra towing capacity. I believe the numbers are 19,200 for a regular cab DRW and 18,600 for a CC. I sure hope GM will do something cause I'm sure Dodge will

i personally dont think gm will just sit their and watch other numbers go up and ours stay the same. i think by the end of 2006 we will have a much better truck than ford or dodge could make.

Jayc,

Several members of the DP are already towing that much and more with their Duramax/Allison combinations with no problems. You can bet GM is not going to allow something as simple as a gear ratio bump or adding another load spring to keep them from being "king of the hill". It's all about bragging rights! JJ ):h

I looked at that commercial and the 19,200 lbs they were reffering to was the Gross Combined Vehicle Weight, (GCVR).

I would hope the commercial is incorrect because that would make the F350 a very big sissy.

"To get from 17,000 pounds to 19,200 pounds, Cisaruk said, engineers added a limited-slip rear axle that had not been an option in the F-350."

Are you saying that we will have to wait 3 more years for a new HD to be released? I bet Dodge doesn't wait-their truck engineers are working as we speak to boost the Dodge's towing capacity.

That's the rumor, I read that MY06, the full sized SUV's are being redone, then in MY07 the Silverado is to be redone, followed by the HD's in MY08. But look on the bright side, in August of 07, you can get the new HD if the rumors are correct...

Here are the GCWR's off Ford's website for the 2004 6.0 Powerstrokes. 26000 is the GCWR with the "tow boss" package and 4.30 rear axle. Respectable! Sorry I was unable to copy the headers for SRW, DRW, 4X4, etc. JJ :)

I had a 2005 Ford SD in the shop today.

here are the things I noticed it had that we do not:

Sunroof (yes I know 05 chevs are availabel with sunroof)
Power sliding rear window (I prefer my rear defrost anyways)
Power adjustable pedals
Built in brake control
Rancho shocks
Way more but harder to use steering wheel controls
Woodgrain
18" wheels
Reverse vehicle aid sensors

I could do without the woodgrain. I could especially do without the 18" wheels. How much do you think it would cost to put a set of tires on that thing?

They got to try to do something to sale them famous names, woodgrain, ect. I'll stick with the max/ali. Ford don't have any thing like it.

None of this stuff gets me wet. Sun roof might be good for ventilation.

MP,

I see you found your old avatar. . .

I do think the power adjustable pedals are cool, as well as the reverse aid sensors. The rest of the stuff doesn't seem that great to me. Did you also notice the way the bottom gasket was routed on the windows? They couldn't even mold one to fit the window, so they are stuck with a poor fit where it bends. . . Just looks cheap and classless to me.

The 4.30 gears are standard on the V10 F250/F350 and the F450 with the PSD. Ford has now put into the F350 a higher gear for more towing capacity and the 18" wheels allow for bigger brakes.

However, those of us that tow 16-17K daily with a F350. know that you are really getting close to needing a MDT for weights above 17-18K.

MY2008 is when the new HD's are coming out, I would expect to see nice things from this...
I would hope that GM doesn't go the route Ford went with the styling of the new SuperDuty and make the GM HD look like a scaled down Class 8 wanna-be. I like the current GM styling of making their HD class of trucks look like a pickup instead of an over-the-highway Class 8 rig.

Nothing against over-the-road drivers, but I really don't dream about being one. Leave the "truckers in training" crowd to Ford.

GM already has adjustable pedal, I have them in my 20030Tahoe and the wife likes them alot, just adding it to the trucks would be easy.....

As far as the other stuff, sliding windows are OK but I'll take the defroster any day, woodgrain does not excite me nor does the sunroof and the integrated brake controller.......

So I think GM is doing just fine and I sure won't be looking at a Ford, not unless they buy Isuzu and Allison.

):h Being a rather push a Chev than drive a Ford man.(I have own a couple of Ford products in my 40+ years that's what made me this way). I won't be looking at one. I really like my 02 it has 58,000 on it an I have pulled the 5th wheel in the sig all out west and have not had any problem. Most of the other two(Ford/Dodge) I ran with on these trips were in my rewview mirrows especialy on the grades and I am stock. Had a couple of Fords blow by me on grades blowing black smoke chip I supect. For a stock truck the GM Max/Alli do thier jobs well and I don't think Ford or Dodge has any thing like it.Just my 2 cents worth.

I like the Rear Sensors,

Sunroof, had one installed, so factory option would be nice

I do like the seats with the little tiny holes that are in the Navigator, so when you turn the air on, its Cooool!

I think all three make fine trucks now,

Chevy has the edge on gizmos, XM, On Star, Overall gauges, steering

Fords look intimidating, Love the mirrors, and have a very Loyal following.

Dodge is like what trucks used to be like, not alot of bells and whistles, gotta love the cummins, crewcab to small.

I would not want a factory installed brake controller. After using several types of controllers, I have settled on the BrakeSmart and love it. I would like to make the decision on the type controller I am going to pull with.

Well my only concern with the ford pulling that much weight is the tranny, I don't care how big of rear end you get. I don't beleive that the torque shift will hold long term with weights that heavy. Hopefully I will be proven wrong.

Now that makes sense......lets draw a line somewhere that a pickup stops and an MDT starts. Then maybe the childish PR games about who has the most HP or TQ can stop and a little more effort can be directed to developing a really good all around pickup truck. GM is ahead of them all in this regard and I hope they keep it up because they're not THAT far ahead. :ro)
